🌿💚 We’re delighted to announce that Limerick Civic Trust has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Lidl Green Fund 2026!

Our proposed Community Green Corridors Initiative aims to transform underutilised urban spaces across Limerick into biodiverse micro-green areas. The project will involve planting native trees, creating pollinator-friendly flower beds and introducing small habitat features to enhance biodiversity and support local wildlife. 🌳🐝

Now, we need your support to help bring this initiative to life!

1. Spend €30 in Lidl and scan your Lidl Plus app at the till to complete a stamp card.
2. Submit your stamp card in the Lidl Plus app.
3. Select Limerick Civic Trust’s project through the in-app Green Fund survey.

Introducing another speaker of ours: Peter Owen Jones

Peter Owen Jones is an Anglican priest, author and television presenter, best known for his BBC documentaries exploring faith, spirituality and different ways of living.

His programmes include Around the World in 80 Faiths, How to Live a Simple Life and The Lost Gospels, taking him around the world to examine religious traditions and contemporary spiritual life.

Join us at ODYSSEY – Love, Power & People in the Age of the Machine, where Peter will explore questions of conscience, humanity and what it truly means to make progress in an increasingly technological world.

Introducing more of our speakers: Lord Stephen Green

Lord Stephen Green is the former Group Chief Executive and Chairman of HSBC. Having joined the organisation in 1982, he became Group Chief Executive in 2003 and Group Chairman in 2006.

He later served as the UK's Minister of State for Trade and Investment and has written extensively on business, ethics, finance and society. He is also an ordained Anglican priest.

Quentin Peel is a distinguished journalist and international affairs commentator who joined the Financial Times in 1975. Throughout his career, he has held a range of senior positions, including Africa Editor, Brussels Bureau Chief, Moscow Correspondent, Foreign Editor and International Affairs Editor.

With extensive expertise in European affairs, Russia and international relations, Quentin is also an Associate Fellow of Chatham House.

ODYSSEY – Love, Power & People in the Age of the Machine

Arts & Culture, University of Limerick, in partnership with Limerick Civic Trust, is delighted to announce ODYSSEY, a new three-day Autumn Forum taking place across Limerick from 23–25 October 2026.

At its heart is one question:

Are we becoming more powerful more quickly than we are becoming wise?

ODYSSEY brings together leading international voices to explore artificial intelligence, democracy, media, global power, love, conscience and what it means to be human in an age of extraordinary technological change.

Across three days, the Forum will feature conversations with:

• Stephen Green – former Chairman & Group CEO of HSBC and former UK Minister of State
• Quentin Peel – former International Editor of the Financial Times
• Karen Currey – American broadcaster and media executive
• Isabel Hilton – journalist, broadcaster and China specialist
• Peter Owen Jones – writer, broadcaster and Christian priest

From “Is the Experience of Love Universal?” to “AI: Boom or Bust?”, “After the West?” and “What Is Man For?”, ODYSSEY will tackle some of the defining questions of our time.

This is not simply a conversation about technology. It is a conversation about power, responsibility, truth, progress and the kind of society we want to create.

🪨 Some experiences are too good to enjoy only once.

As part of our Impact Fund award from Rethink Ireland, we have organised a programme with Irish Natural Stone: ‘Carving the Future in Stone’, to deliver training in traditional stone masonry, conservation and craftsmanship.

The first of these courses took place this week on Monday and Tuesday, everyone learned about Ireland’s stone traditions, picked up the tools and got to practice the craft first-hand. Hands got dusty, ideas flowed, and we came away with new knowledge, new skills and a much deeper appreciation for the artisans behind Ireland’s historic buildings. 🏛️

A huge thank you to everyone who made it happen. We can’t wait to put what we’ve learned to good use! ✨

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Autumn Business Lunch at No. 1 Pery Square!

It was a wonderful afternoon, and we are so grateful to everyone who came along and supported Limerick Civic Trust. A special thank you to our guest speaker, Professor Vincent Cunnane, for sharing his time and insights with us.
