We want to ask you something…. What does recovery actually mean?

When a woman leaves an abusive relationship, what do you think recovery actually means?
Is it…
🏠 Having somewhere safe to live?
🧠 Feeling better mentally?
💪 Rebuilding confidence?
👩‍👧 Feeling confident as a parent?
🤝 Reconnecting with other people?
💼 Returning to work or education?
❤️ Learning to trust again?
🌱 Finding out who you are outside of the abuse?
✨ Having hope for the future?

Is it all of these things and more?

At The Uplift Project, we believe leaving abuse is not the end of the journey. Safety is the beginning. Long-term recovery means having the opportunity to rebuild confidence, identity, relationships, autonomy, wellbeing and a sense of belonging.
That is why we believe recovery programmes need to be designed around people, not pathways.

So today, we want to hear from YOU:

👇 If you could change ONE thing about the way society supports people after domestic abuse, what would it be?

There are no wrong answers.
Tell us in the comments.

If you think this is a conversation more people need to have, share this post.

Standing With Jady’s Family

The Uplift Project stands with the family and friends of Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa, who was killed as a result of domestic violence in Limerick on 21 August 2026.

We extend our deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved Jady. No family should ever have to experience the devastation caused by domestic violence.

Our condolences cannot be where the conversation ends.

Another woman’s life has been lost. Another family is grieving. Another community is left asking how this could happen.

We must turn grief into action. We need to do more to ensure women experiencing domestic violence are believed, supported and protected — and that their families and loved ones have access to meaningful support too.

💜 Believe women when they speak about abuse.
💜 Know the signs of coercive control and domestic violence.
💜 Support friends, family members and colleagues who may be at risk.
💜 Challenge attitudes that normalise or minimise abuse.
💜 Demand accessible, specialist and properly resourced services.
💜 Keep domestic violence prevention and survivor support at the centre of our communities and our policies.

Domestic violence is not a private matter. It is a community issue, a societal issue and a matter of life and death.

For every woman who is afraid to speak.
For every family trying to help someone they love.
For every survivor trying to rebuild their life.

We must do better. Jady’s life mattered. Her family matters. And every woman experiencing domestic violence deserves the opportunity to live safely and freely.

🕯️ In memory of Jady. In solidarity with her family. In action for those still living with abuse.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please reach out for support. You are not alone.

We often focus on what happens during crisis: safety, emergency accommodation, risk assessment and immediate support.
But what happens after the crisis has passed—when the effects of trauma, coercive control, isolation and fear are still shaping everyday life?

At The Uplift Project, we believe recovery services need to ask a different question:
Are we designing services around organisations, or around the people who need them?

Uplift isn't an add-on programme of activities or outings. It is an evidence-informed, trauma-responsive approach to long-term recovery, grounded in behavioural science and shaped by the women and families we support. Our staff are highly qualified and committed to providing our service users with the support and advocacy they need to thrive.

A creative session isn't just a creative session.
Movement isn't just exercise.
Peer connection isn't just socialising.
Each creates opportunities for connection, confidence, choice, mastery and autonomy.
When someone has spent years being controlled and having decisions made for them, recovery shouldn't mean being placed into another predetermined pathway.

Families shouldn't have to fit the service. The service should adapt around them.
And perhaps we need to rethink how we measure success.

Not simply:
How many people attended? How many referrals? How many sessions delivered?

But:
Are people more confident? More connected? More hopeful? More empowered?

Ultimately, the success of a recovery programme shouldn't be measured by how much we deliver—but by what becomes possible for the people we support.

Celebrating Partnership: The Wellbeing Room

We’re incredibly grateful to Elaine from The Wellbeing Room for the powerful one-to-one work she has been providing to women at The Uplift Project.

Through her Life Mastery Therapy approach, Elaine brings together holistic healing, coaching and transformational support to help women reconnect with themselves, explore the impact of stress and trauma, develop healthier boundaries and reconnect with their own inner strengths.
Her work is centred on empowerment—helping women recognise their own capacity for healing, growth and positive change.

For women rebuilding their lives after trauma and domestic abuse, having a safe space to pause, reflect and reconnect with themselves can be incredibly valuable.

Thank you, Elaine, for sharing your expertise, compassion and time with our women and for being such an important part of our recovery community.

Celebrating Six Weeks of Positive Change with Jenni 👏🏽🎉

Over the past six weeks, we have had the privilege of seeing the impact of Jenni Timony Mediation working alongside women in The Uplift Project.

Jenni has generously provided one-to-one sessions to a number of our clients, creating a safe and supportive space where women can explore their experiences, identify what matters to them and begin to recognise their own capacity to make meaningful choices for themselves and their families.

What has been particularly encouraging is hearing directly from the women about the difference these sessions are making.
Clients have reported significant positive impacts on their general wellbeing and mental health, alongside increased confidence in their ability to advocate for themselves and, importantly, for their children.

For women who have experienced domestic and gender-based violence, finding your voice again can be a powerful part of recovery. After periods where choices may have been controlled, dismissed or undermined, having the opportunity to be heard, supported and equipped with tools to advocate for yourself can be transformative.
This is exactly why The Uplift Project believes in recovery beyond crisis.

Recovery isn't simply about reaching safety. It is about rebuilding confidence, restoring autonomy, strengthening wellbeing and supporting women to feel capable of shaping their own futures.
We are incredibly grateful to Jenni Timony Mediation for donating her time and expertise to our clients and for investing so generously in their recovery.

Thank you, Jenni, for walking alongside our women and helping them recognise that their voice matters, their choices matter and their future matters.

🔐 Who’s Listening?
Smart Technology, Privacy & Safety for Women and Families

As more and more cases of technology-facilitated abuse come through our doors, we are proud to announce our upcoming workshop- Who’s Listening?

Our homes are full of connected technology—phones, laptops, Alexa, Ring doorbells, smart watches, gaming consoles, children’s tablets, GPS watches and Bluetooth trackers.

But how much do we really know about what our devices can access, who controls them and who we might be sharing information with?
The Uplift Project, in partnership with SME Web Designer is bringing you Who’s Listening?—a practical, interactive workshop designed to help women feel more confident and in control of their digital privacy and safety.

There’s no complicated tech talk and no scare tactics. Just practical information, straightforward guidance and the opportunity to check your own devices as we go.

Together, we'll explore:
📱 What your devices can see, hear and track
🔐 Passwords and two-factor authentication
📍 Location sharing and Bluetooth trackers
🏠 Smart home devices and account ownership
📧 Who actually controls your accounts
👧 Keeping children’s devices and accounts safer
🎮 Gaming consoles, tablets and connected devices
📷 Camera and microphone permissions
📶 Home Wi-Fi and connected devices
🔎 What to check when something doesn't seem right

We'll also look at some of the most important questions to ask about the technology in your home:

What can this device access?
Who am I sharing with?
Whose account controls it?
Is my password protecting it?
Is the device secure and up to date?

Where possible, bring your phone or another device and follow along with us. You'll leave with practical knowledge and a simple way to review the technology throughout your home.

This is particularly important for women who may be experiencing coercive control or technology-facilitated abuse, where technology can sometimes be used to monitor, track, intimidate or control.

Knowledge can be empowering.
You don't need to fear your technology. You need to know who's in control of it.

🗣️ What is The Uplift Project? 🗣️

The Uplift Project is a different approach to recovery ‼️
We support women and children affected by domestic and gender-based violence, trauma, poor mental health, addiction and social isolation…but we don't believe recovery should be reduced to a series of appointments, assessments or checklists.

We believe leaving abuse is only the beginning.
Recovery can mean rebuilding confidence after years of coercive control. It can mean finding your voice again, reconnecting with other people, rediscovering your identity, learning to trust, and beginning to imagine a future beyond survival.

That's why The Uplift Project brings together behavioural science, trauma-responsive practice, lived experience and community connection to create holistic, person-centred recovery opportunities.

Our programmes include movement, creative arts, therapeutic and wellbeing sessions, peer connection, education, advocacy and one-to-one support. BUT, these aren't simply activities or "outings".

Every element has a purpose ‼️

We ask women what matters to them and work alongside them to build a recovery journey that reflects their individual needs, strengths and goals. Women shouldn't have to fit themselves into a service. The service should work for them.

At The Uplift Project, we're working to build recovery beyond crisis—helping women move from surviving to rebuilding, reconnecting and thriving.

Every woman matters. Every voice matters. Every recovery journey matters.

Thank You to Orla McKeown Wellness & Coaching
Last night, our ladies had the privilege of taking part in a truly special wellness session with Orla McKeown from Orla McKeown Wellness.

Orla's warmth, compassion and gentle approach created a safe space for our women to pause, reconnect with themselves and prioritise their own wellbeing. Her holistic approach to supporting emotional wellbeing and resilience made the evening both uplifting and empowering.

At The Uplift Project, we know that recovery is about so much more than surviving—it's about rediscovering joy, building confidence and finding moments of peace along the way. Sessions like these are an important reminder that healing happens in many different ways.

Thank you, Orla, for so generously sharing your time, knowledge and kindness with our community. Your support means so much, and we are incredibly grateful to have you as part of our recovery journey.

Our voices are heading to Leinster House 🗣️

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be raising the realities facing women, children and frontline services in Donegal.

This is about more than funding. It's about recognising that domestic abuse services are essential public services and ensuring every woman can access support when she needs it—whether that's in a moment of crisis or throughout her recovery.

We'll be speaking about the growing complexity of domestic abuse, the impact of coercive control and intergenerational trauma, the need for sustainable investment in long-term recovery programmes, and the importance of evidence-informed perpetrator intervention alongside survivor support.

The women we support have told us what recovery should look like. They have told us where the gaps are, what works, and what still needs to change. Their experiences will be at the heart of every conversation we have.
We are committed to ensuring that the voices of survivors are not only heard—but acted upon.

A sincere thank you to Donegal News for continuing to shine a light on these important issues and to everyone who continues to stand alongside us in creating a safer future for women and children.
