September is National Recovery Month, a movement which started in the US back in 1989 through The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Every year since then, recovery communities have used it to raise awareness, break stigma, and celebrate success around addiction recovery.

UK SMART Recovery has been part of that conversation in Britain since 1998. We actively promote non-stigmatising language, so you'll never be referred to as an "addict" or "alcoholic" in any of our meetings. Instead we help our participants to Discover the Power of Choice through our 4-Point Programme and the SMART Tools within it. All our meetings are run by trained and qualified facilitators, and are open to anyone dealing with any addictive behaviour, not just substances.

Our meetings are free (with donations to our charity always needed and gratefully received!) so if you've been on the fence about coming to a SMART meeting, this Recovery Month is a great time to show up.
