Beach users are asked to only swim in the designated areas which will be marked with flags.

· Parents and guardians of small children are advised to keep watch over their children at all times.

· Please do not bring inflatable toys to the beach. These should never be used in open water as they can be swept away by currents and offshore breezes.

· Water quality information will be available on the beach noticeboard and also available on beaches.ie

· Remember alcohol consumption is not allowed on our beaches and can seriously compromise personal safety around water.

· Please do not bring BBQ’s to our beaches, as they can lead to serious burns if left behind.

· Take your rubbish home with you, if our bins are full, and help keep our beaches safe for all users.

Where an area is not being lifeguarded and you get into trouble or see someone else in difficulty, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

It's hot out there! Please share our lifesaving advice to help us keep people safe 📢

With many enjoying the sun, we are asking you to remember one thing if you're by the water:

- Tilt your head back with your ears submerged

- Relax and try to breathe normally

- Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat

- It’s OK if your legs sink, we all float differently

- Once your breathing is under control, call for help or swim to safety.

Enjoy and stay safe 🥵

Howth RNLI Water Safety Crew had a very successful weekend at the Howth Maritime & Seafood Festival sharing water safety messages with over 900 children and adults. A huge thank you to Paul Phelan, Daragh Shields, Marianne Reynolds and Killian O'Kelly for the endless Spot the Dangers challenges.
Thanks to Howth RNLI fundraisers for assisting Stormy Stan with his collection and slowing the tide of passers-by to allow us to talk to the families, Mossy Shanahan, Rose Waldron, Eugene O'Connor, Lea Byrne, John, David and Gus. Approximately 900 Water Safety messages delivered.

While some of our volunteers were welcoming Ireland AM to Howth Lifeboat Station yesterday, five others were crossing the Irish Sea to bring the Howth All-Weather Lifeboat (14-33) home following routine engine maintenance.

The crew left Howth at 5:30am and after completing final checks in Wales, they departed at 16:40 and arrived safely back into Howth just after midnight.

Scheduled maintenance is essential to ensure our lifeboats remain safe, reliable and always ready to launch when the pagers sound.

During this time, our crew have been operating with relief Trent-class All-Weather Lifeboat 14-17. The relief fleet is a vital part of RNLI operations. Once 14-33 is fully prepared to return to service in the coming weeks, 14-17 will move on to support another RNLI station.

Well Done to Deric from Ireland AM who alongside Linda-Gene Byrne, our Regional Water Safety Lead, has just demonstrated how to Float to Live live on television.
Thanks too to our own Paul for talking through what to do should you get into difficulty in the water this summer and thanks to Colm and Aidan for sharing all about the brilliant work that goes on behind the scenes to save lives at sea, wonderful to see in this National Volunteers Week.

Float to Live could save your life.

Remember:
- Tilt your head back with ears submerged
- Relax and try to control your breathing
- Use your hands to help you stay afloat
- It's okay if your legs sink, we all float differently

Practice these steps at a supervised location, like a swimming pool or lifeguarded beach so you know what to do in an emergency.

19/05/2026

Thanks to Deric and all the Ireland AM team who are with us this morning in Howth to talk about our lifesaving work. Keep watching as Deric will do a Float to Live demonstration with us at 8.45am.

This is something we want everyone to know, learn and remember this summer. If you get into difficulty, in the water, Float to Live.
