Fingal County Council have given the copied below update on the improvement works to the access steps to Balscadden Beach. The works were detailed and specified by a consultant team, and a construction tender was published on the 24th March, 2026. This tender closes on the 27th April, 2026.

Provided a successful outcome of the tender process, a contractor will be appointed before Summer 2026.

The exact duration of construction will be determined by the winning contractor and will be specified in their tender. However, we estimate the construction stage will take around 13 weeks, once they have mobilised to site.

It won’t be possible to allow public access to the site during the construction period, including weekends, for contractual and Health and Safety reasons.

The works are scheduled to commence in September 2026, outside of the busy summer period. Friends of Balscadden Beach

Quick update on the steps. We are glad to report that progress is being made on the project to repair the steps at Balscadden Bay Beach. Fingal CoCo are actively engaged and we hope to have news very soon of when the repairs will commence. We will engage with Fingal regarding ongoing access to the beach during the repairs.

The keen eyed amongst you will have noticed the outer swimming buoy has been lost to the recent Easterlies. Luckily one of the regular swimmers rescued it from the beach. The local community plans to resite it in the Spring. They will collect a few bob to pay for the chain, shackles and weights closer to the time!
