What happened on the river Glyde in June is not a local incident. It is a national emergency

Finland decided to end long-term homelessness — and backed that ambition with action. As Ireland grapples with empty homes and a housing crisis, what lessons can we learn from a country that made housing a national priority?

Homelessness has been normalised, unlike in Finland where affordable, secure housing is an ethical and economic priority.

It's Wild Salmon Day today!

☘️A day that should be about celebrating a species rooted in our history, our culture and who we are as people.

📢Unfortunately, wild salmon in Ireland are on the brink!

🚨There has been a 90% decline in wild salmon numbers in Irish rivers since the 1970s with fewer than 150,000 left today.

Causes of decline:
- Destruction of river habitats.
- River barriers such as weirs and dams blocking salmon from moving up the river.
- Fish farms spreading disease and sea lice to wild populations.
- Water pollution.
- Climate change.

✊With the right political will these issues can be solved through removing barriers, and keeping our waters free from pollution.

Ireland’s nature is in crisis — but there is still hope. New restoration successes show what’s possible when ambition, science and funding come together to protect our habitats and birds.

Nature directives protecting the habitats of species such as the ‘fairy bird’ of Belmullet are being threatened in the name of progress
