The 2025 regulations still apply on any open rivers in the absence of new regulations. Still awaiting Minister Dooley to sign in the new 2026 regulations since the public consultation ended on March 5th so we don’t know yet if our rivers are open or closed. We have put in our submission along with hundreds but not sure if he will read them and take heed. Time will tell as we wait and wait and wait. In the meantime we can still dream. Here’s a clip from the Robert Redford film on trout fishing in a river runs through it. Someday there will be one about the wild Atlantic salmon if they are still there by then.

Thank you to all members who were enquiring about new regulations which the minister has yet to sign in and announce. We will keep you posted when this happens as in the meantime 2025 regulations still apply. Notice to register for 2026 season will be sent out in May as usual. In the meantime guess who has the river to themselves. They think!

So sad to learn of the passing of one of our most senior club members Clement Lamb who stood with us for many years on the banks of our river. Rest in Peace Clement and condolences to Brendan and family on your sad loss. Suaimhneas siorai. Also I share Noel Mc Goohans post on the loss of Brendan Morris. RIP

Nice wee baby seal on the old Cè at Teelin Bay. Enjoying a few returning salmon I’m sure. Thanks Cormac.

In a week when we suffered a fish kill on the Abhainn Bhui river, we note that a multi agency environmental protection checklist took place near Ballyshannon to examine the contents of carriage vehicles. There was no report on what was found and if the search resulted in how many files were being sent to the DPP.

Tuesday Sept 30th - last day of the season. Thanks to plenty of rain last night we have the best water possible to end what was a great season if we didn’t have the fish kill on the Abhainn Bhui. Tonight there will be a Dail JOC enquiry into the Blackwater fish kill of 46,000 fish and we on the Yellow river will be mentioned as one more disasters that polluters have caused.

Monday 29th Sept. Not a bad water level for today and tomorrow’s last cast. Enjoy.
