The donkeys want to meet YOU! 🫏💚

There’s still time to make a little summer magic at Sathya Sai Donkey Sanctuary. Come visit us before 30th September and spend some time with our lovely residents.

They’re curious, funny, gentle, and full of personality — and they have a wonderful way of making us slow down, breathe, and smile. 🥰

Set in the beautiful hillside of southern Sligo, it’s a lovely place to spend time enjoying fresh air, green fields, beautiful scenery — and, of course, lots of donkeys!

So if you’re anywhere in the northwest of Ireland, please come meet them. They’re waiting for you! ❤️

💕 When You Find Your Best Friend… You Play!

There’s something very special about a bonded pair of donkeys.

Chris and Henry are a perfect example. Henry is the brown one, and these two boys have formed the kind of friendship that makes you smile every time you see them together.

And apparently, when you have a best friend, you also need to have a ball. 😂⚽

Donkeys are incredibly playful animals. They enjoy games, exploring, investigating new things, and—just like these two—sometimes simply having a good old-fashioned game of keep the ball away from each other!

What we love most is that playfulness doesn’t have an expiration date. Even older donkeys can be curious, mischievous, silly and full of joy. They still want to interact. They still make friends. They still have fun.

For donkeys who have spent years being neglected, worked too hard, or simply overlooked, watching them rediscover those little moments of happiness is one of the greatest rewards of sanctuary life.

If you’d like to help Chris, Henry, and their many friends continue to enjoy the good things in life, a donation of any size makes a real difference. Every €5, €10 or €20 helps us provide the food, veterinary care, farrier care, shelter and enrichment our animals need.

Because sometimes, sanctuary looks like something as simple as two old friends playing with a red ball on a grey Irish day. 🥰🐴

Thank you for helping us give them the life they deserve. ❤️

☀️☘️ August has been a month of ups and downs at the sanctuary. We had to say goodbye to a couple of our residents, including sweet Zara and beloved old Rosie, who we think was well into her 30s. There was a lot of upkeep to finish this month, including farrier visits, dental appointments, ragwort pulling, fence building, and field shelter repairs.

But it was also a month of many lovely moments, including the day young Ruby and her brother and friends dropped off €500 that they’d personally fundraised to help get our animals through the winter. And of course Heritage Day one week ago, which brought several hundred visitors — including the beautiful and brilliant Niamh Cusack!— to our sanctuary for a magical afternoon of animals, crafts, music, and friendship, all in support of the wellbeing of about 80 donkeys, ponies, and horses. 🐴 🫏

For everyone new to our sanctuary, welcome! You are invited to visit us on Donkey Hill in southern Sligo at the weekends and bank holidays or by appointment) through the end of summer. We are entirely dependent on the support of donors, and we are so grateful for every euro donated. It means the world to us and to our four-legged residents. ♥️🙏🏽

We hope to meet you (or see you again) in person soon!

🦷💚 A HEALTHY SMILE STARTS WITH DENTAL CARE 💚🦷

Yesterday, 10 of our ponies, horses and donkeys had an important part of their holistic care: a dental examination with our wonderful equine dentist, Shane.

Dental care might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about sanctuary animals, but it is essential to their health and wellbeing. Many of the animals who come to Sathya Sai have experienced years of neglect, and sometimes that neglect has included their teeth. Regular examinations help us identify problems early, keep them comfortable, and make sure they can eat properly and enjoy their food.

Each dental examination costs €50 per animal.

And today was only the beginning. A couple dozen more of our animals still need their dental examinations over the coming months.

Because we are entirely dependent on donations, every €50 contribution helps us provide this essential care to an animal who deserves a comfortable, healthy life.

💚 Would you help us put a smile on a donkey, pony or horse?

A donation of €50 covers one dental examination, but every contribution helps us reach our goal of making sure every animal receives the care they need.

Thank you for helping us give these beautiful souls the healthy, happy lives they should have had all along. 🫏🐴💚
