This groundbreaking VR Community Opera was developed for and with people living across Ireland.

Out of the Ordinary/As an nGnách tells the tale of a community forced to flee their barren homeland, which, due to their own actions, can no longer sustain them. Nalva, our main character, builds a boat to take her people on an epic journey to find a new home.

It will bring you to an imagined, animated world, creating a truly unique experience where you will have the ability to move around and interact with the environment.

Working with Trisha McDermott Dance School, Carol Daly and the Irish National Opera, children will explore movement, costume-making and singing before taking part in the spectacular Opening Night visual movement at King House on July 16th.

Drawing on excavations at The Rock (Castle Island), completed in 2023, alongside major discoveries at Kilteasheen in Knockvicar and the Rockingham Moated Site, Finan will share the remarkable findings that have emerged from these important sites. Together, they offer an unprecedented insight into the social, political and cultural world of medieval Ireland.

With significant conservation work soon to begin on The Rock, and publication of the research now on the horizon, this talk offers audiences a rare opportunity to hear first-hand about discoveries that continue to reshape the story of the region and its past.

This engaging presentation will also look ahead to upcoming publications and the next phase of bringing this extraordinary research to a wider audience.
