Founded in 2004 by a core group of cancer survivors in the Carlow area Éist has been providing support for cancer patients, their families and carers on both a group level and on a one to one basis since. As a registered charity (16678) we have worked to provide ongoing emotional
support and practical help to all our members, their families and friends when dealing with cancer diagnosis, going through treatments and on the road to recovery thereafter. We also provide information and education for the general public through seminars, workshops and open forums. Being fully affiliated with the Irish Cancer Society we provide a free confidential professional service to all our members. We are local people working with passion and determination for people affected by cancer in the whole Carlow region.

Éist’s objectives are:
1. To provide emotional support to all those affected by cancer of all types.
2. To provide accredited counselling, reflexology and other Irish Cancer Society approved complimentary
therapies to service users.
3. To provide information and education for the general public through seminars, workshops and media
coverage.
5. To provide a quality, confidential service for all our clients.
6. To enable the person with a cancer diagnosis to gain control of their lives, to enhance their coping skills and

🌸 Let’s Talk Menopause 🌸

A big thank you to Carlow Development Partnership for inviting us to yesterday’s Let’s Talk Menopause – Menopause, Nutrition & Lifestyle workshop at the Woodford Dolmen Hotel, Carlow.

It was a really informative and enjoyable event, bringing women together in a warm and supportive environment to talk about menopause, wellbeing and midlife health.

We are currently enrolling for the Empower Menopause & Cancer Survivorship Programme starting January 2027, an eight-week programme offering information, support and peer connection.

Local Musical Event Raises Funds for Cancer Support Centre

In the last of the summer sunshine, approximately two hundred people gathered at the Killoughternane School Hall for a day of music and storytelling. The event, which featured local and nationally known musicians and DJs, raised more than €5,000 for Éist Cancer Support Centre in Carlow.

The Killoughternane Festival was conceived by Michael and Anne Marie Quirke, longtime residents of the Borris-area townland. Joining forces with School Hall committee members, neighbours, and relatives, their efforts represent a true community effort in support of local cancer services.

Éist representatives came to Killoughternane on September to accept the donation from the community. Opening the presentation, Michael Quirke noted, "Everyone in this room knows someone with cancer, and we are all affected deeply."

Lorna McGrath, Éist Service Manager, thanked the community for the donation and spoke of the services offered by the organisation. McGrath notes that donations such as the Killoughternane group’s help keep these services free for cancer patients. "As a non-profit organisation, we are committed to ensuring that no one faces cancer alone, and that all of our support remains completely free of charge. Whether you are a patient, a survivor, a family member, or a carer, our doors are always open."

Éist volunteer Ann Ryan expressed appreciation for the Killoughternane community and the musicians "who generously donated their time and talent to the festival. It’s an example of what can be achieved when a community comes together."

Local businesses committed resources and raffle donations to the festival and the committee are hugely grateful to everyone who contributed.

Just 17 days to go until our Charity Auction in the Seven Oaks Hotel.

Lion Tom Clowry has been working tirelessly, coordinating the preparations and gathering a fantastic selection of items for the night.

Last year, our auction raised a wonderful amount for charity—but behind every euro is a person, a family and a story of support when it was needed most.

If you can spare just two and a half minutes, please listen to Angela share her cancer journey and explain how Éist supported her through some of life’s most difficult moments.
