Email from Carlow BirdWatch Ireland: The Barn Owl is a red-listed bird of conservation concern in Ireland. This is the highest level of conservation priority due to declines in breeding numbers.
The Carlow Branch of BirdWatch Ireland has a small number of Barn Owl boxes suitable for use indoors in farm outbuildings such as hay sheds and barns. If you or anyone you know are aware of a suitable location where the landowner is willing to provide permission for the installation of such a nest box please contact the branch at this email address [email protected]
Darker sheds with reduced farm activity and ideally at least 2km from the nearest motorway or national road are best suited to accommodate breeding barn owls. Please get in touch providing your phone number if you wish to avail of a box.

Local communities can lead the way in creating an Ireland where pollinators can thrive. Our bees and other pollinating insects are in trouble. The good news is that you can help by making your garden pollinator friendly. Every garden, no matter its size, can be a haven for hungry pollinators. For a list of the pollinator friendly plants see https://pollinators.ie/top-10-pollinator-friendly-plants-for-different-situations/

There is an array of different flowers, bulbs, shrubs and trees for different situations listed.

Two days ago, Ballinabranna school shared photos of a dog that had wandered onto the school grounds. We’re reposting the pictures here so more people can see them and hopefully help identify the owner.

Is anyone missing this ginger cat? She has been coming to a house in Milford Park for the past 4/5 days. Very friendly, but looks quite dishevelled and has matted fur. They would like to return the cat to their owner. Please message this page for more information.

Email from "Suir and Barrow Rivers Trusts Public Consultation"
Join us in person or online to help shape the proposed Rivers Trusts for the Suir and Barrow—your input matters!

The proposed Trusts would bring together communities, landowners, businesses and agencies to better protect each river.

As part of the project, we are running a comprehensive stakeholder engagement programme. This includes:

In-person community meetings
Focus groups for community organisations
Online questionnaires
Meetings with key agencies

There are two sets of community meetings, focus groups and questionnaires. One is for the Suir, the other for the Barrow.

All relevant the information and links to book a place on the various community meetings and focus groups are available on the project webpage. The webpage also contains links to the two questionnaires.

Why participate?
Share your views on the future of the rivers
Highlight local issues, concerns and opportunities
Help shape how the Trusts could be developed

In-person community meetings focusing on the Suir will take place on May 27th in Carrick-on-Suir and May 28th in Cabragh Wetland Centre/Thurles.

In-person community meetings focusing on the Barrow will take place on May 25th in Graiguenamanagh and May 26th in Carlow Town.
