Tullow Tidy Towns & Climate Action Committee

𝐖𝐄𝐃𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝟏𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐔𝐍𝐄 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔
Our fabulous Tidy Towns Volunteers excelled themselves tonight getting through a couple of tough tasks:
1 - planting floral displays on the Dublin Road and Rathtoe Road
2 - tidy up and preparing the planters at the rear of Tullow Civic Offices for new flowers in the coming weeks
3 - cleaning the moss of the hand rail on the wooden bridge over the River Slaney
4 - watering the sunflowers along the Tesco footpath
5 - removing weeds on the top of Wynne's wall and
6 - doing some weeding on Hawkin's Lane.

We were delighted to be joined by Gavin Whitney, Community Liaision Officer with Carlow County Council and Eamonn Wall, Horticulturalist at Duckett's Grove.

𝐅𝐋𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐋 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃 𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐎𝐍 𝐇𝐎𝐓 𝐒𝐔𝐍𝐍𝐘 𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒
It's one thing planting up wonderful floral displays through out Tullow - it's another thing keeping them alive with essential water during hot sunny weather as flowers can keel over and die very quickly. We have a floral display watering rota and thanks to our volunteers we can spend just under two hours with three people supplying vital water to the floral displays.

All the water we use comes from our rainwater harvesting system at Tullow Parish Centre. We have two IBC tanks which collect 2,000 litres of water from the centre roof.

The water is transferred by gravity to two blue barrels on our Toyota Dyna truck and then used to water 41 floral displays all over Tullow Town centre.

What do a Nigerian, a Ethiopian, a Belarussian, a Lativan and several Irish have in common? They are all hard working volunteers with TULLOW TIDY TOWNS of course!

We were delighted with a huge turnout of 18 volunteers last evening as we set out to plant up the square planters on the Inner Relief Road, plant out sunflowers on the Tesco footpath and do some weeding in the Biodiversity Garden.

We would ask for your co-operation in keeping a safe eye on all these plants which have been grown in our own polytunnel.

Sincere thanks to all the volunteers - you help make Tullow a great place to rest, work, play and visit.

The weather was against us this week and our official worknight was called off. A few drops of rain did not deter the ladies though. Not a bit - off they went and planted up the containers at St. Columba's Church and at Forward Steps Shop.
