Over the past few months, CATU Kildare has been helping students living in Maynooth University's new Buckley House accomodation bloc to organise and fight for better conditions.

Students were promised that Buckley House would be high quality-instead, they were given an incomplete building that barely delivers the basics, while being charged luxury-level rent for the privilege.

We're calling on the university to provide affordable accomodation with acceptable standards-MU can easily afford it.

This block of apartments is being rented out by John Connors, a Kildare landlord with multiple properties and even more RTB rulings against him. Despite this, he continues to rent out hazardous apartments and houses throughout the county.

Recently, CATU Kildare met a number of his tenants in the building who complained about his negligence. One of these tenants, a mother of a child with disabilities, told us of how a boiler leak went unfixed for 3 months despite multiple requests to fix it. She provided us with these photos of the shocking preexisting conditions in the apartment, all of which were raised with Mr. Connors but ignored. Eventually, after months of fighting, she was forced into emergency accommodation.

We won’t stop until landlords like John Connors are brought to justice. If you want to step up and help your community fight against people like the property owners creating extortionate renting conditions and making families homeless throughout Kildare, join us.
