Come and enjoy the creative experience of painting – learn how to use different techniques: charcool, oil paint; learn perspective, color mixing and color theory; have some retrospect on art history. Find your preferred medium of expression, your style to depict the world around you. The program we offer is very personal as we consider ones abilities, preferences, attitude in painting. But for the
very beginning we offer everyone the same basic program. Beginner I:
1. - color mixing, theory of colors
This first itroductory class we learn what we need to know about oil paint and color:
As we start a painting course, we have to start from the very begining – the mixing of colors. I introduce researches on colors by Johannes Itten and Josef Albers. This first itroductory class is a lot of fun - we learn the three basic colors, the mixing of colors, complementary colors, softening and emphasizing colors. We study the relation between colors and non-colors, also the importance of the grey, and importance of matching the colors. At the same time we learn why Goethe were so important in defining „color theory”. We use 3 basic colors at this very first class: cadmium yellow, cadmium red, cobalt blue.
2. – color sequence in warm harmony
We learn how to abstract the colors we see in reality. We try to represent colors we see in reality – we study an installation of warm colored draperies that will be our guide in our first composition. We enlarge our palette, and use about 7-8 colors as: cadmium yellow, cadmium red, yellow occre, burnt umber, titanium white, alizarin chramoise, cobalt blue, ultramarin blue.
3. – color sequence in cold harmony
We learn how to abstract cold colors after an installation of cold colored draperies. Very similar to the 2nd class, a bit more attention to our composition. We enlarge our palette with: paris blue, ice blue, chromoxid green fiery
4. – composition
We learn how to compose our painting. I demonstrate old time tooles for composing a painting dated back to the early Renaissance. We are preparing a one color painting after a simple still life installation, and we merely study composing. We learn how to represent forms we see, how to search the negative and positive forms, how to find good proportions. This is the very first step towards visual observation. We learn how to use different tools to do our best in composing.
5. – tonality
We create a one color painting after reality, and translate colors we see into tones: dark and light and all in between. This class is very important for further steps as we learn how to translate the world we see into a new language. We work after a still life installation.
6. – still life – full color painting
We put together what we know, and we make a full color composition after reality. Beginner II:
7. – basics of geometry: linear perspective
For being more sure how to represent what we see, we need to learn basic rules of the linear perspective, therefore we sentence this class to old times: we learn a bit about experimental perspective theories of old ages, then the most important visual discovery of the Renaissance, the linear perspective. We make charcoal basic perspective drawings.
8. – basics of geometry: elliptic
We learn how to show a circle in perspective. We learn all about elliptic forms, what is inevitable knowledge for future steps in painting.
9. – white color composition
We study white as an important color in painting. We realize a still life painting.
10. – grey color composition
We study grey as an important color in painting. We realize a still life painting.
11 – transparency
We realize a painting observing glasses – through this we learn new techniques.
12 – knife techniques
We realize a painting after a simple installation using solely knife technique. Intermediate:
13 – dark-light contrasts
14 – geometry: space
15 – cold-warm contrast
16 – abstraction – brush techniques
17 – landscape –sfumato
18 – landscape – knife technique
Advanced:
19 – motion – drapery in motion – drawing class
20 – in research of styles I. – imagery after photo
21 – in research of styles II – imagery after photo
22 – portrait – one color painting after a sculpture
23 – self-portrait in one color
24 – inerieur-painting
Figure drawing and painting:
25 – anatomy
26 – anatomy
27 – sketch – life modell drawing
28 – sketch – life modell drawing
29 – figure painting – life modell
30 – figure painting – life modell
