CEEweb for Biodiversity

CEEweb for Biodiversity Our mission is to help preserve biodiversity, emphasising Central and Eastern Europe.

CEEweb for Biodiversity is an umbrella organisation in Central and Eastern Europe working for the conservation of biodiversity through the promotion of sustainable development. We do so through advocacy, networking with and influencing decision-makers, implementing national and transnational projects, and by carrying out capacity-building and raising awareness activities. Throughout this time, we

have worked in over 20 countries identifying and changing the drivers behind biodiversity loss; forming common policies and actions for the enhancement of biodiversity in Central and Eastern Europe; and promoting the enforcement of international conventions for nature and biodiversity conservation.

The Summer is right around the corner, but the season for festivals has already started! 🎪🎉 As such, last weekend we participated in the Climate Weekend on the Danube Promenade in Budapest, organised by Budapest Városháza. Met friends of all ages, introduced them to the bigger picture of what a sustainable food system represents, and, you guessed it, played with them our board game!

We will keep on disseminating our message by playing the Reboot Food Escape Game and sharing these moments with you all. And if you are interested in playing it with us, don't hesitate to write to us!

„Ahogy a dédnagyanyáink is éltek és a földeken dolgoztak, annak megvolt az éves ritmusa. Erre az embernek a szervezete egy idő után rááll és igényli is.”

Mit jelent hátrahagyni a városi életet, és teljes mértékben a természettel együtt élni? 🏙➡👩🏼‍🌾

Check out the Report of EUKICON 2026!

Thank you for inviting us and for the opportunities for exchange that the conference offered!

CEEweb brought the topic of to the workshops, educating attendees on how these unique ecosystems contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

We, as part of the EUKI - European Climate Initiative community, are currently implementing the Peatland Futures in CEE project.

The EUKICON26 report is out! Read it here ⬇️

At a time of growing urgency in climate policy and a shifting political landscape, the decarbonisation efforts of the EU and its industries face increasing pressure from external competitors. Security, resilience, and competitiveness have become a higher priority on Europe’s political agenda.

At the over 200 experts from climate policy and practice discussed how to double down on climate action in this changed political context. Together, we tackled questions like
🔹What is needed to make the EU stick with its strong climate targets and actually meet them?
🔹How can climate and security policy be aligned to achieve mutual benefits?
🔹How can European industrial, trade and investment policies harness climate action as a driver of sustainable growth and strategic autonomy?

Dive into the report to read about discussions, keynotes, and workshop outcomes at EUKICON26 that addressed these questions. 👉https://www.euki.de/en/euki-publications/eukicon26-doubling-down-on-climate-action/

Peatlands may cover only a small share of Europe’s land area, but they are the continent’s largest terrestrial carbon store. Yet, nearly half of Europe’s peatlands are degraded, turning many of them from carbon sinks into significant sources of greenhouse gas emissions.

That is why the Peatland Futures consortium brought peatlands to EUKICON26 – the EUKI - European Climate Initiative Academy Networking Event in Berlin through the workshop Sustainable Peatland Futures.

Through interactive discussions and storytelling exercises, participants reflected on challenges in their own sectors and explored how healthy peatlands can provide solutions through the ecosystem services they offer.

After two and a half years, the Mystical Danube project is reaching its end and, as such, CEEweb for Biodiversity is present in the Closing Conference “Routes connecting people”, held in Bucharest and organised at the Palace of the Parliament.

This opportunity has allowed us to present the “Policy recommendations for sustainable community tourism development with a transnational context,” one of the project’s main outputs, encompassing 9 countries throughout the Danube Region.

Moreover, we are honoured to be here with a representative from Duna-Ipoly Nemzeti Park ( DINPI ), representing the Ipoly valley, the Börzsöny hills, and the project's Hungarian Pilot Site.

Keep following the project for its final outcomes!
