🇺🇦🇷🇺‼️ A turning point in the war has arrived: Ukraine is seizing the initiative as Russia begins losing ground for the first time in a long while, — The Economist

Ukraine is beginning to regain the initiative in the war after enduring the hardest winter of massive attacks.

Russia’s spring offensive has failed — for the first time since 2024, Russia has started losing territory under its control.

Russian military losses have already exceeded the pace of new recruitment, and the Kremlin is reportedly discussing an additional mobilization of 300,000 people.

Ukraine has also surpassed Russia for the first time in the number of long-range drone strikes — around 70% of Russia’s population is now within UAV strike range.

Ukraine is beginning to dominate the “drone war”: Russia is lagging behind in countering UAVs and is being forced to move warehouses and military bases farther and farther from the front line.

A team of 10 Ukrainian drone experts wiped out two NATO battalions in a single day. More than 16,000 allied troops had no answer.

In naval drills, a Ukrainian-led red team sank a NATO frigate. The crew never detected the attack. "So are you going to attack us or not?" the blue team asked. The ship was already destroyed.

"The problem wasn't that they couldn't stop us—they didn't even see us," a Ukrainian source said.

Now Ukraine is pulling troops from Western training. The instructors are "disconnected from our realities," a deputy chief of Ukraine's General Staff said.

NATO intercepted 24% of Russian drones over Poland. Ukraine intercepts 90.4%.

Western instructors work from manuals. Ukrainian soldiers work from last week.

🔶 Early calls for a ceasefire, diplomacy, and political negotiation were dismissed as naïve or “pro-Russian,” while the dominant response became sanctions, bloc confrontation, and escalating militarisation, leaving negotiations largely to external actors.

🔶 The result has been a devastating human toll and a deepening war economy, while the European Union has failed to open a serious political dialogue with Russia aimed at building a common European security system and a negotiated path out of the war.
