IMEKO International Measurement Confederation

IMEKO is a non-governmental federation of 42 Member Organizations individually concerned with the advancement of measurement technology.

Its fundamental objectives are the promotion of
- international interchange of scientific and technical information
- in the field of measurement and instrumentation and
- the enhancement of international co-operation among scientists and engineers from research and industry. We have an online-only journal ACTA IMEKO
Focus and Scope:
The main goal of this journal is the enhancement of academic activities of IMEKO and wider dissemination of scientific output from IMEKO TC events. High-quality papers presented at IMEKO conferences, workshops or congresses are selected by the event organizers and the authors are invited to publish an enhanced version of their paper in this journal. The journal also publishes scientific articles on measurement and instrumentation not related to an IMEKO event.

The September issue of the IMEKO Newsletter is now published. It highlights recent events, including the annual IMEKO General Council Sessions in Bangkok, hosted with incredible hospitality by colleagues at the National Metrology Institute of Thailand (NIMT), as well as recent conferences.

IIMEKO TC17 conference, International Symposium on Measurement and Control in Robotics ISMCR 2026 is soon to begin!

General Chair of the conference, Prof. Geraldo Gurgel's message to all participants:

"After months of preparation, the day is very near.
Our team is working on the final details; we are in close contact with authors and speakers, and the ISMCR community is getting ready.

For many of our authors and participants, the journey to ISMCR 2026 has already begun: preparing and practising their presentations, making the final adjustments, and, for those coming from outside Rio, getting ready to travel.

IMEKO is preparing for its annual event, the General Council Sessions, which this year are generously hosted by the Thai National Institute of Metrology (NIMT).
The two days of the Sessions will be packed with discussions by the Technical Board and the General Council, comprising the IMEKO Member Organisations.
IMEKO has five candidates for membership, highlighting its global presence and expansion.
In Bangkok, among others, the latest updates on the IMEKO World Congress Rimini will be revealed.

IMEKO looks forward to welcoming the Technical Board and General Council members to the Sessions, either in person or online!

NEXT STEPS IN THE ROBOTIC EXPLORATION OF MARS.

A unique opportunity to look into the future of robotic exploration of Mars with Dr Ivair Gontijo, one of the engineers who contributed to NASA's robotic space exploration program.

The Organising Committee is honoured to welcome Dr Gontijo as a Distinguished Keynote Speaker of the 27th International Symposium on Measurement and Control in Robotics (ISMCR 2026).

ISMCR 2026 will bring together researchers, paper authors, engineers, industry professionals, and students from around the world, together with leading Brazilian universities and research institutes, to discuss advances in robotics, measurement science, control, and related technologies. It will be the first edition of the symposium held in South America, organised by IMEKO TC17 in collaboration with Estácio Universidade Estácio de Sá and with institutional support from Inmetro.

The ISMCR 2026 Organizing Committee is pleased to announce the first Distinguished Keynote Speaker for ISMCR 2026.

Dr Waldemar de Castro Leite Filho (Brazil) is the first keynote speaker to be announced for the 27th International Symposium on Measurement and Control in Robotics (ISMCR 2026).
Dr Waldemar de Castro Leite Filho is one of Brazil's leading experts in guidance, navigation, and control for aerospace applications. At ISMCR 2026, he will deliver the keynote lecture on:
"Performance Assessment of Inertial Navigation Systems"

ISMCR 2026 is an internationally recognized scientific symposium bringing together leading researchers, universities, research centers, government institutions, and technology organizations from several countries.

For the first time, ISMCR will be held in South America, hosted and organized by Estácio, Universidade Estácio de Sá, in Rio de Janeiro, under the scientific organization of IMEKO - International Measurement Confederation TC17 and with the support of the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro), the Brazilian Member Organization of IMEKO.

This edition has received a strong international response, with a significant number of high-quality paper submissions from researchers across several countries, together with strong participation from Brazil's leading universities, research centers and scientific organizations. The symposium features an international double-blind peer-review process, with accepted papers published in Springer Proceedings.

Abstract:

The availability and access to data are fundamental to all kinds of digital processes. The digital transformation of the quality infrastructure, the system comprising metrology, accreditation, conformity assessment, standardisation, and market surveillance, requires transforming a large number and variety of processes.

Providing documents by email or as a website download does not meet the requirements of actual digital processes and automation. Instead, machine-to-machine communication and information exchange are needed. One current prominent example is the EU Digital Product Passport (DPP). Data spaces provide the corresponding architecture.

In this M4D Talk, we will introduce the concept and general architecture of data spaces, provide examples of existing implementations, and outline use cases for data spaces in quality infrastructure processes.
