IMEKO is a non-governmental federation of 42 Member Organizations individually concerned with the advancement of measurement technology.

Its fundamental objectives are the promotion of
- international interchange of scientific and technical information
- in the field of measurement and instrumentation and
- the enhancement of international co-operation among scientists and engineers from research and industry. We have an online-only journal ACTA IMEKO
Focus and Scope:
The main goal of this journal is the enhancement of academic ac

tivities of IMEKO and wider dissemination of scientific output from IMEKO TC events. High-quality papers presented at IMEKO conferences, workshops or congresses are selected by the event organizers and the authors are invited to publish an enhanced version of their paper in this journal. The journal also publishes scientific articles on measurement and instrumentation not related to an IMEKO event.

The Organizing Committee of the IMEKO Joint Conference TC8-TC11-TC24 to be held from 26-29 August 2026 in Metro Manila, Republic of the Philippines is anouncing the first Plenary Speaker: Mr. Marcus Long on the Future of Global Assurance.

Mr. Long serves as the Chief Executive of the Independent International Organisation for Certification (IIOA). He is a member of the Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated (Global ACI) Executive Committee, where he chairs the Stakeholder Committee. With an MBA and a BSc in Economics, his extensive career spans pivotal leadership roles, including Head of External Affairs at BSI and Head of Customer Service at Network Rail, as well as key roles at BT, Marks & Spencer, Next, and Land Rover.
Mr. Long will explore the strategic priorities of this new global accreditation powerhouse and the collective actions required by the quality infrastructure to effectively benefit global society.

Excellent news for the international scientific community!

Even before the full paper submission phase officially opened, ISMCR 2026 had already received a remarkably strong international response during the initial abstract submission stage, with clear indications that these numbers will continue growing over the coming weeks.

The 27th International Symposium on Measurement and Control in Robotics (ISMCR 2026), an official TC17 symposium organized by Universidade Estácio de Sá / YDUQS, with institutional support from — the Brazilian Member Organisation of IMEKO — has already attracted more than 70 technical submissions involving around 200 authors and co-authors from institutions across South America, North America, Europe, and Asia.

Current submissions already reflect the symposium's broad interdisciplinary profile, including robotics, artificial intelligence, aerospace systems, adaptive systems, metrology, learning metrology, intelligent sensing, digital learning environments, medical and assistive technologies, autonomous systems, advanced simulation, environmental monitoring, measurement-driven technologies, and several other emerging research areas.

We are sincerely grateful for the excellent international engagement and for the high scientific quality already observed in many submitted works.

The 20 May is World Metrology Day, which commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention in Paris in 1875. This treaty provides the basis for a worldwide coherent measurement system that underpins scientific discovery and innovation, industrial manufacturing and international trade, as well as the improvement of the quality of life and the protection of the global environment.
The theme for World Metrology Day 2026 is Metrology: Building Trust in Policy Making, which highlights the role metrology plays in providing scientific evidence and legal frameworks that policy makers can use to make informed, transparent and enforceable decisions.

IMEKO celebrates this day alongside Metrology Insitutes worldwide.

There is still time for the scientific community to submit abstracts and join this important international interdisciplinary environment within the IMEKO TC17 community, whose 2026 edition will take place in Brazil as part of its traditional worldwide rotation among member countries.

As the May 20 abstract submission deadline approaches, the submissions and international contacts already show a very interesting interdisciplinary environment connecting robotics, artificial intelligence, sensing, intelligent systems, and real-world applications.

It is also great to see Brazilian researchers and institutions contributing alongside international researchers and groups at a high scientific level.

Interesting contributions are already arriving in areas such as: medical and rehabilitation robotics, human-machine interaction, advanced sensing, calibration and measurement systems, digital twins and simulation environments, smart instrumentation and reliability, decision-making and measurement-driven systems, large-scale measurement systems, drones and autonomous vehicles, aerial, terrestrial and subaquatic systems, space and lunar applications, precision and traceability-oriented technologies, intelligent autonomous systems and many other emerging interdisciplinary topics.

One of the most interesting aspects of ISMCR has always been the broad interdisciplinary connections among robotics, artificial intelligence, measurement, intelligent control, and emerging technologies within the IMEKO TC17 community.

The symposium's diversity of topics also reflects the broad interdisciplinary scope of IMEKO TC17 and ISMCR, underscoring how robotics and measurement technologies are increasingly integrated into critical real-world environments and complex operational challenges.

The 27th International Symposium on Measurement and Control in Robotics (ISMCR 2026), organized under IMEKO TC17, will take place on September 17–18, 2026, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This edition marks an important milestone, bringing this long-standing IMEKO TC17 symposium to the Southern Hemisphere.
ISMCR brings together researchers and professionals working in robotics, measurement, sensors, artificial intelligence, automation, and related fields.

Proceedings will be published by Springer and indexed in major international databases.

Submissions are open, and we are already receiving an increasing number of abstracts from around the world. Authors are encouraged to submit their work at this stage.
