IMEKO International Measurement Confederation

IMEKO International Measurement Confederation IMEKO is a non-governmental federation of 42 Member Organizations individually concerned with the advancement of measurement technology.

Its fundamental objectives are the promotion of
- international interchange of scientific and technical information
- in the field of measurement and instrumentation and
- the enhancement of international co-operation among scientists and engineers from research and industry. We have an online-only journal ACTA IMEKO
Focus and Scope:
The main goal of this journal is the enhancement of academic ac

tivities of IMEKO and wider dissemination of scientific output from IMEKO TC events. High-quality papers presented at IMEKO conferences, workshops or congresses are selected by the event organizers and the authors are invited to publish an enhanced version of their paper in this journal. The journal also publishes scientific articles on measurement and instrumentation not related to an IMEKO event.

Abstract:

The availability and access to data are fundamental to all kinds of digital processes. The digital transformation of the quality infrastructure, the system comprising metrology, accreditation, conformity assessment, standardisation, and market surveillance, requires transforming a large number and variety of processes.

Providing documents by email or as a website download does not meet the requirements of actual digital processes and automation. Instead, machine-to-machine communication and information exchange are needed. One current prominent example is the EU Digital Product Passport (DPP). Data spaces provide the corresponding architecture.

In this M4D Talk, we will introduce the concept and general architecture of data spaces, provide examples of existing implementations, and outline use cases for data spaces in quality infrastructure processes.

While summer is the time for holidays, IMEKO is busy preparing for its 70th General Council Sessions jointly with the Technical Board meeting to take place on 24 - 25 August in Bangkok, Thailand. This year, the Confederation has four candidates for membership, from various continents, affirming IMEKO is a global organisation, in expansion.

Regarding conferences and congresses, eight events are still scheduled for this year. Preparations for the World Congress 2027 in Rimini, Italy, have advanced, with submission dates set. IMEKO met the Rimini Team's Special Sessions Coordinator, Dr Federico Tramarin.

This issue includes interviews with Mr Aiwen Ma from the Chinese Society of Measurement, Zeliha Hanım Karapınar in the series IMEKO Goes to Young Scientists, and Dr Gelado Gurgel Filho about the ISMCR 2026 symposium in Rio de Janeiro. Dr Valentina Bello and Prof. Luigi Rovati talk about PHOTOMED EDUMET 2026 and Young Scientist initiatives at this conference.

There is important publishing news from Acta IMEKO and the Measurement Journal Digitalisation. We close this issue with quick news updates and a summary of the conferences.
