Held on 26 October at the Hopewell Hotel, this year’s Conference—themed “Specialty Coverage: The Reason for Brokers to Exist”—brought together 200 industry professionals for an afternoon of insightful discussion and valuable connections.

We were honoured to welcome our Guest of Honor, Mr. Stephen Yiu, JP, Chairman of the Insurance Authority, who delivered an insightful opening address.

Thank you to Ms Elly Zhang of Markel International, an Underwriting Division of Lloyd’s China, for delivering an insightful presentation to our members and industry professionals on Marine War Risks Insurance on the afternoon of 15 October.

Around 70 insurance professionals joined to hear Ms Zhang explore war insurance overview and evolution, major maritime war events and JWLA, market impact, claims and exposure, underwriting responses and case sharing, as well as risk management and the long-term outlook.

We sincerely appreciate Ms Zhang for generously sharing her expertise, and thank all attendees for their participation and support.

Thank you to Mr. Gary Lui and Mr. Leo Ho of Deacons for co-hosting the CPD session “Understanding the Legal Aspects of Brokers’ Work in Claims Handling” on the afternoon of 4 September. Over 60 insurance professionals joined to hear the speakers explore legal procedures, workflows, and recent trends through real-world case studies.

Our Chairman, Mr Qianli Shi, was pleased to join the 9th Annual Roundtable of the Belt and Road Global Forum on 11 September 2026, connecting with representatives from around the world to share information and foster collaboration. We were delighted to partner with Mr. Henry Wong of WMC Partners to kick off our Professional Sponsorship Series with a highly practical and insightful webinar.

Titled “Legal Tips for Insurance Brokers on Handling New-Style Crash-for-Cash Scams,” the session brought together over 70 industry professionals for a deep dive into this evolving risk landscape. Participants explored the latest scam developments, key patterns and tactics, how insured parties may be entrapped, relevant motor policy provisions, and practical insights from brokers’ perspectives.

The final session of the Compulsory RO-CPD Training for the Assessment Period 2025/2026, co-organized by the Insurance Authority (IA) and HKCIB, was successfully held on 22 June.

The session opened with an insightful presentation by Mr. Peter Gregoire, Consultant (Legal and Conduct Supervision) at the IA, who shared key perspectives on the roles of responsible officers, Conduct Requirements, and Control Areas. This was followed by Mr. Mark Stevens, Partner at Deacons, who delivered an overview of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance and important regulatory issues for insurance brokers. The session concluded with practical guidance from our Secretary-General, Ms. Yvonne Lam, on drafting an effective compliance manual. Special thanks also go to our General Committee Member, Ms. Karen Lieu, for her excellent moderation of the session.
