【Charitable donation tax deduction: Can the price of two coffees spark hope? 📉📈】

2 Coffees in Central ☕☕ = 2 Days of Survival 🍚🍛
Which one will you choose this tax season? 📉📈

In the heart of Central, HK$100 might just cover your morning coffee run with a colleague. But for an asylum seeker in our city, that same amount is a lifeline.

The Reality Check: The government provides a food allowance of only HK$40 per day. That’s HK$13 per meal. While inflation makes your coffee more expensive, it makes their survival nearly impossible. Learn more about the situation facing asylum seekers in Hong Kong on page 2!

Make your $100 work twice as hard before March 31:
For You: Receive a tax-deductible receipt for the 2025/26 year.
For the Community: Support Branches of Hope’s essential casework and emergency supplies that fill the gaps the system leaves behind.
Your “daily routine” can become someone else’s dignity and hope!

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we have two powerful MDW stories of survival, strength, and sisterhood—empowered by .hk at Branches of Hope. ✨

Lynn endured years of forced labour, excessive hours, hunger, and dehumanizing demands, leading to panic attacks and trauma. She resigned, rebuilt, and through STOP’s Empowerment Program learned her rights, negotiation skills, and self-care. Now she volunteers in STOP Outreach, sharing knowledge to protect others.

Grace arrived in 2018 to support her family. After six kind years, her next employer turned violent. She bravely reported the abuse to police, escaped, filed a case, and found support with STOP. With special visa permission to stay and find new work here, she rebuilt. Today she joins STOP workshops proudly: “STOP provided financial & moral support and advice. The workshops taught me my rights as a domestic worker and what to do if abuse happens.”

From pain to purpose—Lynn & Grace now lift others, proving knowledge to the community.

This , their shared message: Care for ourselves inside & out, build strength, raise our voices, and stand as examples—so we shape a just, inclusive society together. 🌸

STOP empowers MDWs with education, protection, and pathways to dignity. No one faces exploitation alone.

【World NGO Day: Why Hope Needs “Branches” 🌿】
In the cracks of our bustling city, what role does an NGO truly play?

For Branches of Hope, we are more than just service providers; we are the bridge connecting “crisis” to a “future.” When the system leaves the marginalized feeling lost, we stand in the gap to guide them through.

This bridge is built on “invisible” work that rarely makes the headlines: 🛤️ ROAD Team: Navigating administrative hurdles to ensure children from asylum-seeking families can access education. 🛡️ STOP Team: Walking alongside those who have faced exploitation, supporting them through legal mazes to claim justice and agency. 🤝

Our work is often unseen — thousands of hours of casework, emotional counselling, and awareness raising. Yet, it is this invisible labour that restores , fights for , and plants the seeds of .

This World NGO Day, we invite you to take action with us:
💬 Share: Raise awareness about the reality that many in our city cannot legally work and must survive on just $40 a day for food.

What is Verbatim Theatre?
Verbatim theatre is a form of documentary theatre built almost entirely from the real, recorded words of people—usually through interviews. Creators transcribe and edit authentic speech to keep its natural rhythms, hesitations, and emotions intact.
By amplifying unheard or marginalised voices, it fosters empathy, raises social awareness, sparks dialogue, and promotes community, justice, and change.
What is Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong (LPCUWC)?
LPCUWC is one of 18 United World Colleges worldwide—a prestigious pre-university boarding school founded in 1992. It hosts 250+ students aged 16–18 from over 90 nationalities in a fully residential, diverse community.
Students pursue the rigorous IB Diploma while living the UWC mission: educating future leaders for peace, sustainability, and a just world through cross-cultural understanding, global responsibility, and generous scholarships.

Does “Justice for All” actually include everyone? ⚖️

Today is the World Day of Social Justice. In theory, the law in Hong Kong protects everyone. But for Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) facing exploitation or abuse, the path to justice is often blocked by a wall of debt.

The Harsh Truth: When an MDW pursues a case against an employer, they are forced into a “waiting game.” They must remain in Hong Kong to fight, but they are legally barred from working. Without a salary, how do they pay for food, housing, or visa extensions during a case that could last months or even years? For many, the cost of justice is simply too high, forcing them to give up their claims and return home without redress.

How STOP steps in: Social justice isn’t just about what the law says—it’s about whether people can afford to use it. STOP Program provides the essential support (housing, food, and casework) that carries those who experienced exploitation through these hardships.

Happy New Year!

Branches of Hope wishes you and your loved ones a healthy and prosperous Year of the Horse!

While CNY is a time for family reunions and celebration, many in our community—asylum seekers and survivors of exploitation—are still on a long journey toward safety and rebuilding their lives, often far away from their families.

This year, we invite you to use this time of giving as a blessing. By donating, you can support our work with restoring Justice for those who need it!

📚 ROAD Program: Ensuring children have the school supplies and support they need to learn and grow.
⚖️ STOP Program: Providing a lifeline for those who have experienced exploitation, are fighting for justice and reclaiming their lives.
🤝 Direct Care: Offering holistic support for some of the most vulnerable members of our Hong Kong community.

Let’s share the festive joy by ensuring no one has to walk their path alone. Your generosity makes a brighter future possible!
