Welcome to the Ghana Bird Watch Organization! Founded in 2006.Ghana Bird Watch Organization is a non-profit, non-governmental, conservation research education, student exchange organization. Our mission is to encourage the protection, conservation, management and preservation of all wildlife especially rare birds and their habitats by developing long-term monitoring projects, implementing conser
vation action plans for the management of species in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and local communities. Set priority measures for species conservation ,raising funds for species conservation ,increase public awareness through campaigns, walks, organizing workshops, conferences ,educating the youth and the local communities about the need to conserve these wonderful biological species and save or reduce their risk of going into extinction. There are also qualified and well experienced, ornithology consultants including conservationist, research ecologist and biologist to aid you incase you face any difficulty whiles in the field. We also encourage the development of mutual awareness and respect amongst members and volunteers participating in our program. We are currently conducting a couple of research projects on Yellow-headed Picathartes (Picathartes gymnocephalus) and some African-Eurasian Migrants including Wood Warblers (Phylloscopus sibilatrix), Grasshopper Warbler (Locustella naevia), Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin), Common Nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos), Tree Pipit ( Anthus cervinus) Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra) ,Common Whitethroat (Sylvia communis), Black Cap (Sylvia atricapilla), Melodious Warbler (Hippolaise polyglotta) , Spotted flycatcher (Muscicapa striata), Pied Flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) and many others. These species numbers have decline dramatically in recent years and the level of decline is so great that most of these species qualify for the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. In response to this we have launched the African-Eurasian Migratory Birds Appeal and Yellow-headed Picathartes Appeal and, thanks to the support of members and volunteers, have already raised about £10k to help fund futher work on African-Eurasian migratory birds and the Yellow-headed Picathartes. There are plenty of questions to answer, in other to understand what is happening to these species across the board. The African-Eurasian Migratory Birds and Yellow-headed Picathartes Survey is a long-term one and this year will look at where the main concentrations exist, local distribution patterns, breeding success and survival rates of species and also the impact of climate change on species. Though the appeal is off to a good start, we still need further funds to run all the proposed work.
*Help us to raise money through the African-Eurasian Migratory Birds Appeal Yellow-headed Picathartes Appeal to enable us to fund research into the continuing declines of these iconic species.
