Thereâs an exciting new festival coming to Wrexham Library this July!
The Wrexham Art Treasures Exhibition of 1876 first revealed to the world our astonishing âWonder Quilt of Wrexhamâ, a fabulous and funky design you might have seen around town or on ITV Wales recently thanks to a brilliant mural by Liam Stokes-Massey
You can learn more about Liamâs work on https://pencilcraftsman.co.uk/ , and read more about the Art Treasures Exhibition thanks to David Ebsworth at https://www.davidebsworth.com/wrexhams-great-art-treasures-exhibition-1876
To celebrate the 150th anniversary, Wrexham Library will be hosting its own three-day festival on 9th, 10th and 11th July.
Over the three days, there will be a display, including⌠a quarter-scale replica of the original Wonder Quilt; the Adam Jones Quilt (courtesy of Tš Pawb); the Dee Valley Quilt (courtesy of Ysgol Froncysyllte), as well as other textile/quilting art from Rhosddu Primary and Barkerâs Lane schools; the Drawing Boardâs 50-panel patchwork; and much more.
We welcome school visits on Thursday 9th July and Friday 10th July, from 10.00am until 11.30am, during which time volunteers will be on hand to chat about the exhibits.
In addition, there will be the following talks/demonstrations:
â¤Thursday 9th July, 2.00pm-3.00pm: Celebrated textile artist, Bethan Hughes, will talk about the place of quilting in a modern world.
â¤Friday 10th July, 1.00pm-4.00pm: Local artist, Rachel Harris, will talk about and demonstrate the traditional craft of Quilting in a Frame.
â¤Saturday 11th July, 10.00am-12.00 noon: Come and help Rachel Harris (along with Emily Ashworth and Rosie Marubbi) to create a Library Quilt.
â¤Saturday 11th July, 2.00pm-3.00pm: Join local author David Ebsworth and friends to hear about the fascinating history of the Wonder Quilt itself.
