On Sunday 18th October 2026, some of the team responsible for the Wrexham Year of Wonder festivities recreated yet another of the town's attractions from 1876 - the Old Time Music Hall!

This wondrous evening of song, readings, comedy and spectacle featured acts which would have been performed at the Public Hall, this time at Grove Park Theatre!

A reminder of a fascinating and tragic part of local history:

It happened twice. This was the first.

In 1876, the National Eisteddfod came to Wrexham for the first time.

The Chair was won by Thomas Jones of Llangollen, known as Taliesin o Eifion, for his awdl. But he died before he could receive it.

For the first time in Eisteddfod history, the Chair was draped in black.

Forty-one years later, in 1917, it happened again when Hedd Wyn won the Chair.
