Wynnstay Hunt

Wynnstay Hunt The Wynnstay Hounds are an Old English Pack of Foxhounds who follow a pre-laid scent according to the 2004 Hunting Act.

This page documents the full cultural life of our Hounds and our Hunt Supporters' Community and how this knowledge is passed down. Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn's Hounds were first established in 1843 by the 6th Baronet, Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn. When the 6th Baronet came into the title, he was still a minor but he was determined to be an MFH, the kennels were built and the stables filled with hunters.

As well as Wynnstay land, the pack was permissioned to hunt in Cheshire at Aldersey and Carden, the Maelor, parts of Denbighshire, the Dee Valley and the Whitchurch area to within 5 miles of Shrewsbury. Will Grice was appointed huntsman until his death in 1848 and he was followed by John Walker from Fife.

CANCELLED
This date below, 23 August, has sadly had to be cancelled due to the hounds not being fit enough. Please read the fill statement.
Sadly, we are going to have to cancel today’s Pre-Puppy Show, the Puppy Show and the Open Day.

The hounds are a little under the weather at the moment. After taking advice from two different vets and the BHSA, we feel it is only right to put them on light duties until they are back to their usual selves.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

The hounds welfare will always come first.

Today, we took some of our Old English Hounds to Is-y-Coed Country Fete. Posey, Peterborough Champion, is the one having a drink at the end. Thankyou for inviting us. It was a wonderful organisational achievement by such a small community.
