Network Rail has made the Wales & Borders route the first in the organisation to install high-tech, real-time weather stations directly onto existing railway communication masts! 🌬️🛤️

Ten stations, including Llanrwst, have been installed across Wales and Borders, measuring rainfall, wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure directly from locations on the railway.

This gives operational teams a clearer picture of the conditions being experienced on the ground. By providing more accurate, localised information, the new technology allows a more targeted response to severe weather, helping keep the railway safe while reducing unnecessary disruption for passengers.

Another full house for Greener Routes - Women's Stories 🥾 🛤️ 🌿

On this walking tour our guide, Tour Guide Katie , explored the stories of women involved in the development of two beloved resort towns on the North Wales Coast.

We started outside Prestatyn railway station before crossing over to the town centre and following the Offa's D**e Path up the scenic high street to the church. We heard of stories of some feisty footballing women, a family of pioneers of women’s rights and other tales of women’s lives in this area, settled since Roman times.

We then took the train to Llandudno, the Queen of Victorian resorts, in time for lunch at the Oriel Cafe. Afterwards we walked through the 19th century town centre and along the famous promenade listening to stories of women from across several thousand years of settlement, including artists, politicians, foreign Royals and a certain traveller in Wonderland.

‘Greener Routes’ has been funded by Avanti West Coast and Transport for Wales Trafnidiaeth Cymru and delivered by us, the Conwy Valley and North Wales Coast Community Rail Partnership.

On Friday and Saturday, Services will be reduced to two trains per hour running between Chester and Llandudno Junction and an hourly service between Llandudno Junction and Holyhead. Services should run to their normal timetable on Sunday.

On Tuesday we attended the Community Rail Network Conference in Derby.

The interactive Open Platform sessions were a fantastic way to share learning and tackle key topics affecting our railways, communities and partnerships. It was incredibly valuable to exchange ideas with other groups, giving us great momentum to bring fresh perspectives back to our work connecting communities to the Conwy Valley and North Wales Coast lines.

Atebion to open new Community Hub at Llandudno Railway Station!

The Community Hub will be a space that supports people and communities to overcome addiction and associated adversity with opportunities for training, volunteering and exploring routes back into education, employment and community life. In addition, there will be a small community café, giving people an informal place to meet, talk, share company and simply feel part of something.

While they have the keys, Atebion need the support of the people, businesses and organisations to help prepare the hub for opening. They have set up a Crowdfunder to raise much-needed funds for things like furniture, café equipment, training and learning resources, decorating materials and the practical essentials needed to get everything up and running.

Despite the drizzle 🌧️ our first Greener Routes | Conwy Valley Explorer was a big hit!

It was full house as we explored Llanrwst with our guide Peter Evans Tour Guide and Author before taking the train 🚉 to Betws y Coed. We are really looking forward to our next Greener Routes, this time Women's Stories with Tour Guide Katie .

Thank you to the Royal Oak Hotel for supplying us with a delicious lunch.
