To mark Black History Month, Colwyn Bay hosted a delegation from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, led by Queen Bakembisa Kuyala Mafuta and the Congolese ambassador.

In the late 19th century, the Rev William Hughes founded the Congo Institute in Colwyn Bay, where he educated boys from the Congo who then returned to their own country. Their educational legacy endures to this day.

The Band opened a multicultural concert at Rydal Penrhos School with the three national anthems.
