A few months ago, I wrote about how Britain has entered a new state of ‘anarcho-tyranny’ — it has become a country where the state is simultaneously unable to complete its most basic tasks, like controlling our borders, while at the same time becoming more intrusive, bureaucratic, and controlling of its own people.
The British state, in other words, is forcing the British people to live with both anarchy and tyranny at the same time. It is pushing the country to the edge while clamping down on the ability of the people to protest and oppose what is going on.
If you want the latest, glaring example of this anarcho-tyranny, then look no further than the shocking scenes last night in Gosport, Hampshire.
After news that yet another small boat carrying nearly 100 illegal migrants had crossed the Channel after setting off from Normandy, the local people of Gosport gathered to peacefully protest what they rightly see as the total failure of the British state to look after them and control their borders, sovereignty, and territory.
And how did the British state respond?
Before the boat had even arrived, in the very home of the Royal Navy, Hampshire Police imposed extraordinary restrictions across the town of Gosport. They essentially placed the entire town under what is called a Section 34 dispersal order.
They gave police officers immediate powers to order somebody to leave the local area and not return for a specific period, with anybody who refused to do so being arrested.
Peaceful protestors were ordered to confine their entirely legitimate demonstration to a very small designated area, within a car park.
Additional powers restricted the use of face coverings, while roads around the marina, where the small boat was arriving, were blocked by police.
And, in what is now becoming a routine sight in coastal towns like Gosport, an entire convoy of ambulances, police cars, and emergency workers, which are often absent when the British people are forced to endure crime on their streets, descended.
For their part, Hampshire Police will say these measures were needed to protect local communities, facilitate peaceful protest, process illegal migrants arriving, and support various agencies that were also responding to the incident.
But to millions of British people watching on, either by the seafront or on social media, the scenes in Gosport last night, like similar scenes in Dover, Portsmouth, and Folkestone, will have looked like something else entirely.
What many British people now see when they look out at their country, even if they might use different words, is the state of anarcho-tyranny that I warned about.
A British state that, nearly a decade on from the start of the small boats crisis, remains utterly incapable of performing one of its most basic tasks by stopping the ongoing invasion of Britain’s sovereign territory by illegal migrants on rubber dinghies.
A British state that, in the very same week we learn the small boats have brought illegal migrants who have been charged with trying to murder British Jews in Manchester, is actively helping and welcoming more small boats into our country.
And a British state that, despite its usual incompetence on a whole range of issues, suddenly springs into decisive action not to clamp down on illegal migration but legitimate public dissent, imposing draconian restrictions on an entire town.
This, right here, reflected in what we witnessed on the streets of Gosport last night, is the very contradiction that now sits at the heart of the anarcho-tyrannical state.
We are now living in a state that shows weakness towards disorder that is caused by outsiders but brutal strength towards any dissent that is organised by its own people.
A state that is completely incapable or unwilling to enforce the same rules and laws at our borders that it expects millions of ordinary British people to uphold every day.
A state that is willing to tolerate illegal migrants, some of whom do not tolerate us in return, but which is clearly unwilling to tolerate legitimate and peaceful protest by its own people, whether on the streets or online.
And a state that expects the British people to keep working hard, paying taxes, and upholding the social contract, but simultaneously forces them to have to live amidst anarchy, surrounded by murders, rapes, and suspected or convicted terrorists that the state could quite easily block from entering our country but which it chooses not to.
Britain, in short, cannot continue like this.
The more and more the British state forces its own citizens to live with the dire effects of its own incompetence while increasingly trying to control what they can do or what they can think, the more the state will lose legitimacy in the eyes of citizens.
The more the state refuses to control its own borders while talking openly about clamping down on views and protests it happens to disagree with, the more it will encourage a total collapse of public trust and confidence in the system.
And the more that happens, the closer we will all be pushed to the very edge, where countless people will either withdraw from the social contract altogether, begin to endorse violence and civil disobedience, or simply leave the country altogether.
This is why Gosport is not an isolated protest or story. It is yet another warning about the dark direction Britain is currently travelling.
And yet, the only people who do not seem to grasp just how dark this is could become are the very people in Westminster and the British state who appear determined to keep travelling down this path ...
