If you would like to volunteer we would love to have you!

Tuesday Evening Explorers age 14-18 need some extra support alongside their current team based in North Leigh. A great opportunity for someone to get involved who loves adventurous activities.

Wednesday Evening Beavers would also like an extra volunteer based at the scout hut, they too have a team already in place with a great program of activities but just need some extra weekly support.

We support with training and DBS and these roles are great fun with a great mixed group of adult volunteers.

Confidence grows through adventure 💪

Every activity in Scouts helps young people step outside their comfort zone, try something different, and discover what they’re capable of.

We’re proud to see our Scouts grow in confidence week after week.

Last year, we shared that we had secured a site in North Leigh. Since then, an incredible amount of work has gone on behind the scenes to bring it to life. From tree surveys and hedge cutting, resurfacing and repairs to the drive and parking areas, to preparing the field and tidying the stables. Every step has been about making the site safe, welcoming, and ready for adventure.

This week marks a huge milestone, with planning now approved we can officially begin using the site! This means both our current members and future generations will have the opportunity to explore, learn, and enjoy the outdoors as part of their scouting journey.

This has truly been a team effort. A huge thank you to everyone involved from our trustees, treasurer, leaders, working parties, and the wider local community — for their dedication and support.

And a very special thank you goes to Richard Lord. Having been part of Witney Buttercross for many years and now stepping into the role of Chairman, Richard has put in an enormous amount of work to help make this vision a reality.

We’re excited for what comes next! For now welcome to The Old Oak!

110 Years of Cub Scouts!

This month our Cubs celebrated an incredible 110 years of Cub Scouts in style.
They marked the occasion with a fun-filled session packed with exciting activities, games, and plenty of laughter. From teamwork challenges to creative fun, it was a brilliant way to celebrate.

It’s amazing to think of all the adventures Cubs have been on over the past 110 years – and we’re proud to be continuing that journey.

Today our Cubs from Witney Buttercross Scouts had an amazing time at Scouts Days 2026, sponsored by RAF Youth and STEM! ✈️🚀

The Cubs worked towards their Air Activities Stage One and Stage Two badges through a fun-packed day of activities including a museum hunt, building and testing rocket planes, and learning about real aircraft.

It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved, asking great questions and showing brilliant teamwork throughout the day. A huge well done to all of our Cubs for earning their badges! 👏

Thank you to the organisers and volunteers for such a brilliant experience and inspiring the next generation of explorers, engineers and aviators.

Teamwork makes the adventure even better 🙌

Whether it’s building shelters, solving challenges, or helping each other succeed, Scouts learn the importance of working together and supporting one another.

That sense of community is what makes Witney Buttercross Scouts so special.

A huge thank you to Cllr Andrew Coles

Our Cubs had a fantastic time.

In my official capacity as Chair of West Oxfordshire District Council, it was a pleasure to welcome the Cogges Cub pack, part of the Witney Buttercross Scout Group, to the council chamber tonight and to help them towards an Activity Badge. We talked about what the council does and the services it provides. We also talked about Witney’s history, particularly in blanket making. Most especially the cubs enjoyed a tour of the council’s underground bunker, built towards the end of the Cold War. The cubs really are a credit to their families, their schools, the scouts and our community. What a great evening.
