Witney Pride

Witney Pride Community organisation in West Oxfordshire to educate and celebrate LGBTQ+ people and their allies. Bringing people together and providing support.

Witney Pride held it's first Pride Picnic 25th May 2019, which was enjoyed by over 100 people. Windrush Radio entertained us and the West Oxfordshire Fire Service incorporated safety information with fun games for both adults and children. Over the year other events were held including Halloween parties, Pub Quizzes and a film showing to support The Terrence Higgins Trust. We also have a private o

nline social group for over 18's where people can make friends, join in with games and post articles of interest. The Witney Town Council flies a rainbow flag for the start of Pride month in June.

On IDAHOBIT, Witney Pride joins communities around the world in recognising the ongoing need to challenge discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

IDAHOBIT marks a global awareness day first established in 2004 to draw attention to the violence and inequality that LGBTQIA+ people still face. While progress has been made in legal rights and visibility, in many countries, discrimination, exclusion, and prejudice have not been fully eradicated. For many LGBTQIA+ individuals, these issues affect everyday life.

At Witney Pride, we believe that visibility and education are essential parts of creating lasting change. Understanding the history and ongoing reality of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia helps us all play a part in challenging harmful attitudes and building a more inclusive society. This includes listening to lived experiences, supporting LGBTQIA+ people locally and globally, and continuing to advocate for equality in all spaces.

IDAHOBIT is not only a moment of reflection, but also a call to action: to stand together in solidarity, to speak out against discrimination in all its forms, and to work towards a future where everyone can live safely, openly and with dignity.
