The PTSD999 Traffic Light Check-In 🚦

How are you today?

🟢 GREEN – Good to Go
Feeling balanced, connected and coping well.

🟡 YELLOW – Reacting
Stress building. Sleep affected. Motivation dipping.

🟠 ORANGE – Injured
Exhausted. Isolating. Feeling trapped. Struggling daily.

🔴 RED – Critical
Overwhelmed. Crisis point. Thoughts becoming dangerous.

The goal isn’t to stay Green all the time.

The goal is recognising when you’re moving through the colours and taking action before reaching Red.

Which colour best describes you today?

82 Years On. We Remember.

Today marks the 82nd anniversary of the Normandy D-Day landings.

On 6 June 1944, thousands of brave men crossed the Channel and faced unimaginable danger in the fight for freedom. Many never returned home, but their courage, sacrifice, and determination helped shape the world we live in today.

As we remember those who landed on the beaches of Normandy, we also honour all who served, those who gave their lives, and the families who carried their loss.

Lest We Forget.

Sleep and PTSD

For many people living with PTSD, bedtime isn’t peaceful.

Nightmares.
Night sweats.
Flashbacks.
Broken sleep.
Fear of sleeping.

When someone says they’re exhausted, it may be much more than a bad night’s sleep.

PTSD can affect every hour of every day.

Recovery starts with understanding.

Box breathing is a simple but powerful breathing technique used by people managing stress, anxiety, PTSD, and overwhelming situations.

It works by slowing your breathing and helping to calm your nervous system, bringing your mind and body back into balance.

📦 The Box Breathing Method

1️⃣ Breathe In through your nose for 4 seconds

2️⃣ Hold your breath for 4 seconds

3️⃣ Breathe Out slowly through your mouth for 4 seconds

4️⃣ Hold for 4 seconds

🔄 Repeat for several cycles until you feel calmer.

Think of each step as one side of a square (or box).

Myth vs Fact

❌ MYTH: People with PTSD should just “get over it.”

✅ FACT: PTSD is a recognised mental health condition caused by experiencing or witnessing traumatic events.

Recovery isn’t about “getting over it.”

It’s about learning to manage symptoms, rebuilding confidence, finding support, and taking one day at a time.

Be kind.

You never know what battle someone is fighting behind closed doors.
