With the arrival of warmer weather our thoughts are turning to summer camps!

We'll be going away with our Brownies and Guides three times this summer, and first up is a weekend away for one of our older Guides to earn her Camp Permit. Last weekend we held a camp prep day so the girls could practice their tent pitching, fire lighting, cooking and first aid skills. They did a brilliant job, and the food got rave reviews!

One of the things that makes Girlguiding so special is that the girls are asked to think about and help others and be an active part of their community.

Last week our Brownies visited Eashing Cemetery Community Garden and Orchard and put their Brownie promise into action, helping with tasks like weeding, dead heading, planting and cleaning pots and moving stones.

Thanks to Francesca for hosting us, It was lovely to get hands-on helping such a great community initiative!

We like to have a good mix of activities at Guides, so we'll often learn useful skills alongside some silly fun!

Recently the Guides have been practicing knots, doing some fire lighting and getting very messy with paint!

The Brownies always love a bit of cooking, so while our Year 4s were away on a school residential our younger girls got stuck into making rocky road!

Raisins were not popular additions, glace cherries got mixed reviews, but marshmallows and jelly beans were the top choices! 😂

Last week we got out in the garden for some UMA (unit meeting activities) fun.

For 'Get carried away' the girls had to use their knot-tying skills to build makeshift stretchers. We then held stretcher races to see whose could stand up to rigorous use!

In 'Pass it on' the girls had to transmit a picture down the line just by touch, drawing on the back of the girl in front of them.

Lots of laughs, and most of the stretchers lasted pretty well!

Last month we welcomed Connie and some very special guests from Wild About Britain to our end of term Brownie meeting.

We met and learned about several endangered UK species: a smooth snake, a toad, a hedgehog and Freddie the tawny owl.

Connie is incredibly knowledgeable and we learned so many interesting facts about the animals. Did you know that tawny owls have asymmetrically placed ears to help them pinpoint their prey?

We were all very inspired by Connie's talk, the leaders went and found out about our local toad patrol, and our new Brownie bug hotel will hopefully provide a great environment and encourage wildlife in our immediate area.

At the request of our Guides, we asked Karly, one of our fabulous Rangers, to run a football skills session for us.

Karly ran lots of fun football-based games, and even our Guides who were a bit unsure to start with had a great time. It got quite competitive, as you can see by the goal celebrations! 😂

Huge thanks to Karly who did a great job with a very excitable bunch of Guides! ⚽️

Happy Earth Day!

At Brownies we decided to mark the occasion by building a bug hotel to help increase biodiversity and encourage more wildlife at our hut.

We used lots of natural materials and recycled old and broken items. This is a work in progress that we'll add to over the term, and hopefully have lots of new residents moving in! 🐝🪲🐞🐛🐌

We've even made a start on a sign, where every Brownie (and leader!) left a fingerprint which will be turned into a bug.

Check back for progress reports!

It was a big term for badges at 2nd Milford, here are just some of the badges the Brownies earned!

A huge shout out to Sophie, our youngest Brownie ever to achieve her Gold Award, with two terms left before she moves up to Guides!

We ended the Easter break with a bang, taking our Guides and six of our oldest Brownies to Legoland for an amazing sleepover!

After a packed day of rollercoasters, rides and attractions we had an exclusive Lego robotics workshop and sole use of the Ferrari Build & Race Experience, before settling down for a movie and bed.
After breakfast we then had early access and fast-track passes to beat the crowds to the girls' chosen rides. A truly action-packed trip!

Well done to our brave Brownies (and Leaders) who went on their first ever rollercoaster! 🎢
