Good morning everyone. I'd like to make an announcement regarding the future of The Hilly Helmet Challenge.
After a long hard think taking a number of factors into consideration, I'm sorry to announce a pause to the event after this years running to consider its' future.
The idea for an event came to me through my own experience of having to wear a helmet while waiting for a plate to be fitted after an operation to treat a brain infection. During this time, I continued to run in the helmet which drew a lot of attention and I set up the first running of Hilly Helmet as a 'one and done' way to raise awareness as well as funds for the charity it has always supported. It continued after as every year there was always an appetite for the event and this year will mark the 10th running of the event which to date has raised almost £45000 for our charity partner Brain Tumour Support.
Over the last 9 events, many have enjoyed themselves as they have taken part and in doing so, helped us to raise this brilliant sum for them. There has been fantastic goodwill to be found at every turn, with so many offers of help, donations and of course hard cash coming from event partners to fund our event expenses to enable us to pass your whole entry fee to the charity. The will to take part and support the charity wasn't even thwarted by lockdown in 2020 with so many still taking part in Hilly Helmet - The Lockdown, in which people ran in their neighbourhood and sent in pics showing them taking part.
I'd like to thank all who have entered for this years event so far. Please do tell your friends and get them signing up too. With 100% of your entry fee directly benefitting our charity partner Brain Tumour Support, you're making a real difference to the work they do for people affected by a brain tumour diagnosis, for which I thank you so much.
Remember, if you can't make it on the night you can enter to do the event virtually if you'd still like to support our fundraise. We'll get a memento out to you once you've completed it.
Additionally, we also have Hilly x -Team 100, an opportunity to donate £100 directly to Brain Tumour Support and pay no fee to take part. Please do get in touch if you're interested in either of these ways of taking part if you're unable to run on the night this year.
Finally, if you or your business would like to help support the event this year, please do get in touch so we can speak. Many firms are looking to donate to good causes, if you think your work may be able to support us in that way, please do let us know that too.
Thank you all so much for your support.
