Thank you to The Friends of Hollytree House! 🌟

Led by Susan and Clive, these wonderful residents have been busy fundraising for our Caring for Generations appeal, which aims to provide brighter, more engaging, and welcoming isolation rooms for seriously unwell children at Watford General Hospital.

Through a combination of their festive 'Bah Humbug Raffle' and a Virtual Race Day, the Friends of Hollytree House, led by Susan and Clive Wilson raised a fantastic £1,067.00! 🏁 We are so grateful for their generosity and community spirit.

📷 Pictured: Susan Wilson (front row, second left) and The Friends of Hollytree House residents with our Senior Fundraising Officer, Emily Theobald (centre, back row).

No child wishes to stay in hospital for weeks on end, but this support will help us refurbish isolation side rooms with new flooring, child-friendly décor, working televisions, softer lighting, and comfortable beds for parents. It will make a difficult experience so much more homely, positive, and bearable for our youngest patients at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

We’ve opened our new dedicated Carers Hub at Watford General Hospital, named in honour of former patient Pat Coulson, following the incredible fundraising efforts of her sister Sue Shaw 💙

The Patricia Coulson Suite will provide a dedicated space for unpaid carers to receive both emotional and practical support, helping them look after the person they are caring for, as well as themselves.

Inspired by the invaluable support she and her family received from the Caring for Carers service during Pat’s final weeks, Sue raised £5,300 for the Hub in her memory, while West Herts Hospitals Charity donated £750 to help furnish the Hub, and provided volunteering work to paint the new space.

Sue proudly cut the ribbon to officially open the Hub on Friday. A huge thank you to Sue, and to West Herts Hospitals Charity, for funding the suite which will help many unpaid carers for years to come.

Huge congratulations to seven-year-old Benjamin for completing his muddy obstacle course on Saturday! 🏅🎉

Benjamin loved tackling the course, and he has raised over £500 for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Watford General Hospital.

When speaking to a friend this weekend, Benjamin said he was very proud to be raising money for "the hospital unit that helped me when I was born poorly and let mummy live with me." 👶❤️

Seven years may have passed since Benjamin spent three and a half weeks in the SCBU at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, but the staff there will always hold a very special place in the hearts of Benjamin’s family for the help and kindness they showed.

Check out the photos of Benjamin conquering the mud and proudly displaying his well-deserved medal at the finish line!

Thank you to Mike Irvine for completing the Brighton Marathon in memory of his mother, Bunty Lysbeth Irvine. ❤

Bunty was a resilient patient at Watford General and Hemel Hempstead Hospitals, even surviving COVID-19 at the age of 86. Following her passing in December, Mike took on the 26.2-mile challenge to give back to the teams that cared for her.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication of Mike during such a personal time. The funds raised will help us continue providing vital care for patients across West Herts.
