As it's been a busy year we're taking a breather over the summer so today was our last group session until September. No cooking but chilled and relaxing musical art and interactive games. Brilliant fun!

We just want to thank all our funders who have helped us deliver some incredible projects this year so far including The National Lottery Community Fund Family Toolbox Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and donations from Ferries Families and Chrimes Family Trust.

Through this generosity we've supported some amazing young people struggling with a wide range of issues including acute anxiety, financial hardship and poor mental health. We had some lovely cards, chocolates and flowers today from some of them for which we were so grateful.🙏

A massive thank you to our fantastic team and volunteers, we couldn't do any of this without your help. Luigi, Jane, Sue, Emelie, Blake and Alison, you all care so much and for this we thank you.

Where is the time going!

We can't believe it's Friday already, hope everyone is doing ok in these high temperatures.

In spite of the weather in our Cooking and Crafting session yesterday we turned up the heat in the kitchen and our group made chicken and noodles and veggie mince and rice.

Very tasty!

No pictures as we were melting by the end🤪🍜

In the meantime Jane, our fabulous new member of the Resilient team, deivered a masterclass in print making. Stunning designs!

Last week some of our group created some beautiful handmade jewellery out of fimo.Amazing!!!

Huge shout out to Jane, we are so lucky to have you!

Just to give you a heads up as we are approaching Summer hols we aren't running any programmes in August but we will keep you posted about future projects coming up.

Wow it's hot 🔥 No groups on tonight or Thursday due to the extreme heat.

As we celebrate Volunteers Week, we wanted to give a huge shout out to all the volunteers who have helped Resilient to support hundreds of children, young people and their families over the last 5 years. We wouldn't be where we are today without them.

From Caroline and Peter who were there at the very start of our journey at The Belvidere Community Centre, Lee giving us free tech support, to Alison and Sue who only planned on coming for a few weeks but ended up as a being key members of staff!

Huge thanks also to Sam and Jonathan at Birkenhead Salvation Army who continue to support our work behind the scenes. We are so grateful to you all🙏

We have also had an army of young people helping too but most are camera shy so a huge thank you to you too🎊😊

Another fab week at our Resilient Hub at the Birkenhead Salvation Army

We can't believe there's only one week left of our Resilient project, helping young people on their employment and learning journey.

We're so chuffed to hear that one young person has just been accepted onto the course of their choice at a local college. Yay!🎊

We finished off this week with our Cooking and Crafting project where the self belief in each person who has attended has gone through the roof and never ceases to amaze us how much talent they have.

Batch cooking complete with 2 types of pasta made and some amazing clay tiles created with the help of Jane our own qualified art teacher.

Love it🙏👏

At our Tuesday social session tomorrow we are having a games night.

If you're aged 14 to 25 and find making friends quite hard and even going out a bit challenging then this small group could be right for you.

No need to book just turn up at Birkenhead Salvation Army, Vincent Street, CH41 2RH at 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Just by Farm Foods!

The cost of living is a real worry for young people so at our budgeting session last week we looked at personal income and expenditure and ways to cut back on outgoings.

With food being so expensive we then looked at batch cooking and how planning meals and freezing leftovers can make a real difference to a budget.

How amazing to see a wonderful team effort today as we came together and made chicken curry and rice, veggie lasagne and garlic bread followed by brownies and ice cream.

For some of the group who had never really cooked before and for some who didn't recognise some of the ingredients, this was a real lesson in that cooking is such an invaluable life skill.

We cooked for 12 however made enough for everyone to take some home, and even extended this offer to the wonderful Salvation Army team.

The total cost worked out at just under £4 per person which is amazing value.

Cooking and eating together is such a lovely way to feel connected and have a sense of belonging whilst sharing tasty food.

Superb day all round!

Just a reminder of our groups on this week at Birkenhead Salvation Army

Our Tuesday social group starts at 4.30pm and is open to anyone aged 14 to 25 yrs old who needs a chill out space to be creative and make some friends.

Some of the group have begun a local culture and history project, Birkenhead Park, local musicians and comedy and Guinea Gap are just some of the topics being explored!

We can't wait to see how this all unfolds!

Thursdays are our Cooking and Crafting sessions 1.30pm to 4.30pm with Jane and Louise open to 16 to 30 year olds. Learn a new Crafting skill or do a bit of cooking or both!
