📣 The launch of The Big Future Survey! 📣

The Big Future Survey aims to hear from as many children and young people as possible, aged 0-18, from all backgrounds, in all schools and colleges, in every part of the country. The survey will seek to understand the change children and young people want to see in their communities, their biggest concerns, and their hopes for the future - and what they think a good childhood should look like. They survey can be completed here: www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigfuture

Our Group CEO, Rita Waters, was delighted to join the Children's Commissioner Dame Rachel de Souza at the Science Museum in Manchester for the launch of the survey earlier today. Building on the one million children and young people who have already contributed their views, the Children's Commissioner launched her ambition plan to connect with, and listen to, the voices of a further one million children. We are so proud to support this important work. ❤️

“Knowing what our rights are is one of the most important things in life. It helps us know what support we are entitled to and keeps us safe. Some of us did not learn about children’s rights until we were nearly adults, and if we had known what our rights were earlier in our childhoods, a lot of outcomes could have been so much different for us."

“Gwybod beth yw ein hawliau yw un o’r pethau pwysicaf mewn bywyd. Mae'n ein helpu i wybod pa gymorth yr ydym yn gymwys i'w gael ac yn ein cadw'n ddiogel. Ni ddysgodd rhai ohonom am hawliau plant nes oeddem ni bron yn oedolion, a phe baem wedi gwybod beth oedd ein hawliau yn gynharach yn ystod ein plentyndod, gallai llawer o ganlyniadau fod wedi bod yn wahanol iawn i ni."

Two incredible runners from , Ruth (Image 1) and Shannon (image 2), took on marathons in both Brighton and London last month! 🏃‍♀️

Ruth Sparkes, who completed the London Marathon and has raised over £5,000 so far, shared her thoughts after crossing the finish line:

“It’s hard to explain what running 26.2 miles feels like because it is so unique – it's a music concert all the way, theatre and entertainment moments round every corner, there are the sights and sounds of the communities through which we run and then there are all the other runners all running for their ‘why’.

You feel that energy, grit and determination - and then the high when you cross the finish line. It is the most joyous, heartwarming occasion and it was a privilege to run for NYAS. One of my mantras that got me through the miles was - you are living your dream, you chose this, you are doing it for those who don't have the choices you have.

From applying for my place, through the many months of training and fundraising, all the way to crossing the finish line - the NYAS team have supported and encouraged me all the way. I will treasure the handwritten letter Chloe from the fundraising team sent me - it meant so much in the middle of the 23-week training programme when you begin to doubt yourself! It was the small touches that made a big difference.

As an Independent Visitor for NYAS I know the different NYAS makes. Thank you NYAS for the work you do, the volunteers and service users you support. Your care comes through in all that you do.”

- Ruth Sparkes, NYAS Volunteer and Fundraiser 🏅
