This afternoon we welcomed four new starters to Brass Roots!

Here are three of them with their instruments, all fully funded and ready to take home. 🎵

It’s been wonderful to see Brass Roots continue to grow week by week, welcoming new faces and watching confidence build with every rehearsal. We can’t wait to see what these new players achieve over the coming months.

Talent is everywhere, access isn’t.

This afternoon some of our members enjoyed their fully funded 1:1 music lessons as part of their journey with Crofton Music Trust.

When barriers are removed, children thrive. 🎵

A little snapshot from Brass Roots this week 🎺

There’s been some really lovely progress lately. Some of the players in this video were brand new to the group this week and they’re already listening, watching and playing together.

We’ve also recently welcomed Andy to the conducting team, which has given a bit more room for some individual support alongside rehearsals too.

It’s early days, but you can really start to hear things coming together now, and it’s great to see that early foundation starting to build towards Crofton Training Band.

Also a quick welcome to some new faces on our page. This is what we’ve been up to!

We are so proud of this group.

We wanted to share this upcoming concert from Crofton Silver Band 🎺

They’ve played a big part in supporting Crofton Music Trust, whether that’s sharing the bandroom, helping out, or just being part of the same musical community.

A lot of what we do links into that wider banding world. Some of our players are just starting out in Brass Roots, others are building on that in Training Band, and this is the kind of band they can move into over time.

If you’ve never been to a brass band concert before, this is a lovely one to come along to!

DM us or Crofton Silver Band for tickets!

We’re building something special, but we can’t do it on our own.

At Crofton Music Trust, we believe music should be for everyone, not just the people who can afford it.

We see it all the time. People who would love to learn, play, or be part of a band but don’t get the chance.

We’re working to change that.

We’re creating a space that’s inclusive, welcoming and open to anyone who wants to be part of it.

With your support, we’re able to offer things like free or supported tuition, instruments and a place to play, removing barriers that would otherwise stop people taking part.

We’ve set up a fundraiser to help keep what we offer free to our members and reach more people.

If you feel able to support or even just share this, it would mean a lot 🙏

Inclusion in music isn’t just about children.

At Crofton Music Trust we talk a lot about young people starting out, but inclusion also means making space for anyone who wants to begin, or come back to playing.

People start at all different stages. Some are picking up an instrument for the first time in Brass Roots, others carry on in Training Band, and some move into the wider banding community like Crofton Silver Band.

There isn’t one starting point, and there isn’t one path. That’s what brass banding without barriers looks like 🎺

Yesterday at Crofton Brass Roots the group played one of their favourite rehearsal games.

When the red ball lands back in the conductor’s hands, the band plays.

It might look simple, but the players have to stay focused, watch the conductor carefully, and be ready to react together.

Little exercises like this help beginners develop some of the key skills needed in a band, while keeping rehearsals fun and relaxed.

What makes it even more special is that a few weeks ago some of these players had never picked up a brass instrument before.

Now they’re watching, listening, reacting together and starting to sound like a band.

Moments like this are what Brass Roots is all about. 🎺

It was so lovely having Edward join us at rehearsal last week and seeing him have a go on percussion.

At Crofton Music Trust, inclusion isn’t something we add on later. It’s just how we run things.

Our building is fully accessible, but real inclusion is more than ramps and doorways. It’s about creating rehearsals where people feel welcome and supported.

This is what brass banding without barriers looks like.

Everyone deserves a place in the room
