This year, together we’ve made a real difference across communities and green spaces:

• Reached 25,000+ people directly through our projects
• Supported 43,000+ people to take positive environmental action
• Worked alongside 4,600+ organisations
• Improved 1.4M+ sq m of land to create better, more accessible and biodiverse spaces
• Contributed 59,000+ volunteer hours (worth £850,000+ in social value)
• Helped distribute £6.6M+ in funding to support local communities and projects

And that’s not even including our Water Efficiency work, so the impact is even bigger!

This year we want to celebrate by showcasing our new Groundwork South HAF Summer Outdoor days in Hastings!

This is for children ages 8-14 years old, and is free to eligible families. Days will be held at , Tilekiln Centre, Downs farm and the Combe Valley Discovery Centre.

Big news for nature lovers! The government has just announced its largest ever investment: £60 million into the Species Recovery Programme, with an extra £30 million for recovery work in our national forests. This funding will help protect hundreds of England’s most threatened native species from extinction.

We’re especially proud at Groundwork South to play our part. Our wildflower areas in Hastings recently helped ecologist Andy Phillips rediscover the Hawksbeard Bee (Andrena fulvago), a rare species not seen locally for over 100 years. By creating and nurturing habitats, we're giving this special bee and many other species a fighting chance to survive and flourish.

Celebrating our Fothergills seed sowing at Goblin Combe! 🌱

Thanks to the generous delivery from Fothergills, we’ve been able to plant mangetout, sugar snap peas, salad, tomatoes, herbs, and flowers with the help of our incredible community volunteers, ESOL refugee group, and SEND adult forest school participants.

These seeds are now thriving in raised beds and containers built by our dedicated groups. Soon, our harvest made possible by Fothergills will be enjoyed by everyone from toddlers to adults.

Special thanks to Fothergills for supporting our mission to grow, learn, and share together!

Spring brings warmer weather, abundant food sources, and a baby boom in UK wildlife! 🌱🦡

Spotted at one of our project sites: a badger sow and her two cubs. The cubs would have most likely been born back in February, but would have remained in the sett until April when they first begin to explore and emerge for the first time.

We’re excited to share a glimpse of the adorable, endangered hazel dormice we encountered at Goblin Combe this month! 🐭

Thanks to our incredible volunteer ecologists, we found many inhabited dormouse boxes on our first survey of the year, a hopeful sign for their population. Monitoring and protecting these special woodlands is at the heart of what we do at Groundwork South. Together, we’re making our woodlands richer for wildlife and more welcoming for everyone.
