This morning I informed Mary O’Connor, Chair of Hillingdon Mind, that I have decided to relinquish my post as Director, and to resign with effect from 31st March 2018.
By that time I shall have been in a senior management post for 15 years, including almost 5 years with Hillingdon Mind, and I am pleased to have been able to make a contribution to the further development of the company, not least in expanding the range of services to include the employability programme, additional counselling and addiction services, support for carers and young people, and our participation in H4All. It has also been a privilege to contribute to some of the mental health and other strategic developments in the London Borough of Hillingdon.
I am giving notice of my resignation at this point because it will give our Trustees time over the next four months to consider appropriate senior management options for taking the company forward, to recruit and appoint a suitable senior officer, and allow a period for a smooth transition.
It has been both exhilarating and humbling to serve Hillingdon Mind as Director – a role in which I have had the opportunity to work with some very splendid people in a range of capacities. There have been many formidable challenges to face, and the inevitable disappointments and “down” moments, but these have been far outweighed by the privilege of accompanying countless people with lived experience of mental health issues, and collaborating with, and supporting, staff and volunteers and people in many agencies who have shared this journey with us.
But I'm not retiring! So I shall be looking out for opportunities to take on training, awareness, and campaigning work around issues related to mental health, lgbtq people, refugees and asylun-seekers, learning disabity, and autism.
