**UPDATE**

Police and emergency services remain at the scene this morning following a report of a man in significant distress inside a property on Dale Steet, Ulverston yesterday (18 June).

The man remains inside the address.

Emergency services have identified the presence of a potential firearm within the address and a substance, believed to be noxious, is also being intermittently released from inside the address.

Due to concerns for the safety and wellbeing of the individual and those nearby, a wider evacuation has been put in place.

Chief Superintendent David Pattinson, Cumbria Constabulary, said: “We appreciate that the current emergency services activity in Ulverston may cause concern for the local community.

“Assessments are ongoing and will take some time to safely carry out.

"Armed response officers remain at the scene, and a cordon remains in place to ensure the safety of those in the area.

"Those evacuated are all cared for and being accommodated with families and friends or in nearby facilities.

"We continue to thank you for your on-going support. We understand the disruption this incident is having in our communities, including those affected by the evacuation, road closures and those concerned for loved ones in the area.

"Members of the public are continued to ask to avoid the area and anyone with concerns should approach officers or call Cumbria Police on 101."
