Having carefully reviewed the additional requirements raised by the planning authority towards the end of 2025, I have, with regret, decided to bring this project to a close.
None of these extensive elements were mentioned when we initially sought advice regarding the project, or we would have never started it.
Moreover, meeting these further planning obligations would place an unreasonable burden on the companies that have generously supported the project to date through pro bono contributionsā¦.While they might agree to this, I do not think it would be fair.
In addition, my role as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Polandāan unpaid positionādoes not allow me to commit the increased level of time and resource that would now be required.
While we have succeeded in building a highly committed local coalition, including local businesses, councillors (the full Town Council!), and members of the local community, support beyond this immediate circle has been limited. With the exception of a small number of specialist or interest groups (such as Laguna Spitfire, 307 Squadron, and the Peopleās Mosquito), we have regrettably seen little engagement or backing from more formal or institutional bodies, despite the projectās clear relevance to heritage, defence, and international relations.
It remains possible that, at some future point, we may revisit a more modest proposalāsuch as the installation of a single Spitfire at a less contentious locationābut no decision has been made in this regard.
