Cubs’ last meeting until August! ☀️💦
Sticking to tradition, it was all about getting wet and having an absolute blast. One brave group took on a water-based obstacle course while the rest of the Cubs had just one mission… soak them! 😄 Chaos was guaranteed—and so was the fun.
We finished the night by warming up around the campfire, and of course, toasting marshmallows 🔥🍡

Last night our Scouts took on part of the Expedition Eats challenge, where they have to plan out a menu for camp, on a budget.

We started by talking about ways to cook food (boil/bake/try/grill) and played an elimination game using four corners of the hall. Turns out not one of them knew how to cook a veal escalop, although a surprising number did understand how to prepare Escargot!! 👊👊🤺

They were then given a budget and a shopping price list, and tasked with creating a menu for a day at camp.

They were mostly really quite bad at it, with more than one group suggesting taking frozen pizza... to camp!... but it did gave us great fodder for discussion afterwards.

We finished with a game from the olden days, suggested nostalgically by scouting veteran Scott Strachan at Wednesday's Cub presentation night.

Next week is our final session before summer and as a treat we're going swimming at New Cumnock outdoor pool.

🎳🦫. Tonight was an absolute cracker - our Beavers took over the lanes for a brilliant game of ten‑pin bowling and they loved every minute of it! Strikes flying, splits everywhere, and effort levels through the roof. Just awesome. ⭐

And the leaders? Oh, totally calm, relaxed and not competitive in the slightest… 👀😂. Big thanks to Alison for helping out on a lane too! 💙

Huge thanks for the energy tonight, Beavers - you were brilliant from start to finish. 💙

🔥 Important for next week: It’s our final night before summer and we’re meeting at the Fire Station, not the lodge! 🚒 be there 6.10pm sharp!

🌿 What a day for our Beavers! 🍃 🦫

Today 13 of our Beavers took on the River Ayr Walk as a sponsored walk, raising funds to support our Beaver Colony. They covered just over 5km from Sorn to Catrine, and then on to finish at the beach below Howford Bridge outside Mauchline - brilliant effort from every single one of them.

At Catrine, Debs set the ultimate challenge: collect leaves, grass, moss, sticks and twigs to build a Bug Hotel at the Howford beach. The place now looks like a 5‑star resort for insects!

Massive well done, Beavers. Loads of badge work ticked off today, including Hikes Away, and a fantastic effort on the sponsored walk again too.

Last night at Beavers… we got hands‑on and created our very own ‘sitters’ ahead of our Sponsored Walk this Saturday! Using nothing more than newspaper, bin bags and tape, the Beavers built lightweight, slim, waterproof sit‑mats that tuck perfectly into their packs 📰🎒✨ Ideal for keeping comfy on the ground during our big adventure!

We also ran through our risk assessment and quizzed the Beavers on staying safe, prepared and aware during the walk. Loads of great answers and plenty of enthusiasm from the lodge tonight 💬🦫

Saturday’s walk ticks off parts of some very important badgework and awards, so huge well done to all the Beavers for putting in the effort and getting ready for the challenge 🏅💪

Looking forward to seeing everyone taking part on Saturday - you’re going to smash it!

Last night our Scouts took on some tasks that go towards their Scouts Teamwork Challenge Award.

First, they worked together in teams, in Mission:Lightyear, a game designed to test resourcefulness, resilience and communication skills...

Crashed on a distant planet, a blinded Engineer is out in the field collecting engine parts to fix their broken spaceship. He is guided by verbal instructions alone from his Commander, who can't see what is going on. The ship's Pilot can see the Engineer and the parts he needs to collect, but can only communicate with the Commander using visual cues. 🙈🙊🙉

They were then set the challenge of getting their entire team (of 3 or 4),*through* a single sheet of A4 paper!

We then upped the ante and attempted to get everyone in the entire Troop through the same piece of A4.

The outcome of the latter was a a lot of clamour, some laughter and many frantically shouted instructions... with not much success.

A good night had by all though, with excellent engagement and some badgework ticked off into the bargain!
