Happy ! We're celebrating the UN Day of Play today, with children's drawings from the Forest Garden, Tranent. This is a local space, free to use, rich in biodiversity, welcoming, inclusive and full of play.
"Every child deserves access to secure, inclusive, and environmentally healthy spaces where play can flourish —whether in cities, towns, or humanitarian settings." (IDoP 2026)

Are we ready? This year's theme "Protect play, protect childhood" is an important reminder that playing is a vital part of the pleasure of childhood (as we have heard the United Nations Committee of the Rights of the Child say!) as well as an essential component of physical, social, cognitive, emotional and spiritual development.

We loved sharing our experience of using Wendy Russell's Critical Cartography methodology at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh PlayDate on Saturday. Play Ranger Tori shared examples from our practice and responded to the enticing discussion coming from participants about locations and ways of using the methodology. You can find "Rules for re-enchanting our relationship with play" to download on our website. Be prepared for some magic...

Join us for art and adventure in a beautiful space! 🖍️🌳

Our Play Rangers are heading back to the beautiful Forest Garden in Tranent this Friday (5th June, 12pm–2pm) for another magical afternoon.

Last week, the children told us it's "the best place to play, 'cause it's so beautiful." This week we are delighted to be joined by illustrator Dave Sutton, who will be sketching in the garden and helping children sketch too!

We play whatever the weather! If it’s rainy, we’ll put up a tent to keep us dry. 🎪☔

Come for the drawing, games, to relax and the free snacks.

It’s completely free and everyone is welcome. See you in the garden! 🌻
