Join us on the hunt for Mediterranean Oil beetles, roaming our coast path after dark! 🌙

Our first session is tonight, Wednesday 4th November, and will be an introductory session with local entomologist, John Walters! We will also recap survey techniques at the start of each session. 🔍

4th November - Intro session @ Prawle Point
12th Nov - Start Point towards Hallsands
19th Nov- Beesands towards Hallsands
26th Nov - Slapton
3rd Dec - Forest Cove
10th Dec - Coleton Barton Farm

Sessions run from 6.30pm-8.30pm, with transport available from Totnes. 🙌

Mediterranean Oil Beetles are the rarer, mostly nocturnal cousins of the Black Oil Beetle! Surveying the coast and finding their presence is therefore not only good news for the beetles, but also helps us understand the ability of the area to support these other important insects. 🪲

It’s November!

This month we are running some family friendly workshops and our monthly guided walk!

The workshops are in Totnes. They are a series of creative workshops for children aged 2-12, and their adults, inspired by the beautiful bugs of South Devon.

Then…

We also have a wonderful, guided estuaries walk on the 24th of November!

Booking for these events is essential. We can provide transport if needed for the walk.

Our recent Farm Facilitation Group event at Sharpham Barton Farm was a great success, bringing together farmers and land managers to learn, share experiences and discuss practical approaches to integrating trees and nature recovery into farming businesses.

We would like to thank Jack Skuse Ambios Ltd for hosting us and sharing his experience of the application and delivery process and extend our sincere appreciation to Matt Chown from Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest for delivering an informative and engaging session. Events like these highlight the value of collaboration, knowledge exchange and peer-to-peer learning in helping farms respond to environmental and climate challenges while creating new opportunities for their businesses.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to our final performance in our touring theatre ‘Songs From the Shore’ in Modbury last weekend!

The evening was beautifully crafted by the performers at RunningDogTheatreCIC and Doorstep Arts

And huge thanks to John who joined on stage for his poem about skylarks!

🌱 Biological Inputs to Boost Soil Health🌱

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our successful event Holsome Park., supported by and our farm Facilitation group.

It was fantastic to see farmers and industry professionals come together to explore how biological farming continues to evolve and deliver practical, profitable solutions for modern agriculture.

During the event, we covered:
✅ An introduction to biologicals for soil nutrition
✅ How biological inputs can improve soil health and increase organic matter
✅ The role of biologicals in increasing production, farm resilience, and profitability

We were pleased to hear from Tom Tolputt of , who provided an overview of the current condition of the demonstration field and outlined the exciting trial that will be taking place over the coming months. This trial will give us valuable insights into the real-world benefits of biological inputs and regenerative farming practices.

We look forward to following the progress of the trial and welcoming you to future events.

Our first Songs From the Shore Performance!

Thank you so much to everyone who came along to the performance on the 8th. Huge thank you to the Flavel Arts Centre for having us!

It was a joyful evening and we had a great response from everyone, thank you to Peter for the quote!

Our next Songs From The Shore will be tomorrow at Kingsbridge Community College and then at Modbury Memorial Hall on the 16th of October!

🌿 Creating habitat and building resilience for farming 🌿

Last winter, through Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) 30by30 funding programme, we supported the creation of a new wetland area at Mount Folly Farm.

The project is already delivering benefits for both wildlife and farming. The new ponds and wetland habitat provide valuable space for nature to thrive, while helping maintain greener grazing during dry summer conditions.

The contrast is clear to see. Even during this year's drought, grass around the ponds remained green while surrounding areas became much drier.

A huge thank you to Josh from Quantocks and Exmoor Landscaping for carrying out the work and capturing footage and images , which highlights the value of rewetting projects for people, farming and nature. Watch the video on our YouTube Channel

Projects like this are helping to achieve the 30by30 ambition of ensuring 30% of land and sea is managed for nature by 2030. 🌱
