Practicing gratitude for nature is a simple process, involving being thankful for the things we see, hear, feel and experience all around us. Noticing beauty in nature and resting in appreciation of it, without rushing on by.

We increase our nature connection by engaging through our senses, and immersing ourselves in our natural surroundings, which brings mental, physical and emotional benefits.

We are delighted to share this invitation from Mindfulness Wales to their Autumn Celebration event, which we are looking forward to!

On Saturday 12th September 2026, we’ll gather, breathe, and create together at the beautiful Llanhilleth Miners’ Institute the home of this year’s Celebration of Mindfulness. Stepping into this space for the first time, you can already feel what the day will hold: connection, reflection, shared stories, and the gentle weaving together of mindful communities from across Wales.

This national gathering marks the culmination of the Nurturing Mindful Communities (NMC) project a programme dedicated to supporting, connecting, and amplifying the many ways mindfulness is strengthening wellbeing, resilience, and social connection throughout Wales.

The Present practice invitation - from the theme Connecting - you might like to try this practice with the children you work with or your own children or try this practice yourself.

Standing Mountain/Tree
Standing in socks or bare feet, tune in to
the sensations of contact between the
soles of the feet and the ground. Invite
the children to find a way to stand so that
their weight is evenly spread through
both feet. Notice the feeling of standing -
feeling strongly connected/rooted to the
ground and feeling tall and dignified, like
a living, breathing mountain or tree.
