From sterilisation to safety standard — are your daily routines protecting patients as well as they should?

Join us on 27 June at 3:00 PM for the next BADN Coffee Catch-up with Artur Szelwach, Founder & Director of ProClaves Services Ltd / Safe Place with ProClaves, for a practical session on decontamination, sterilisation, and safer daily practice.

This session will look at the real difference between cleaning, disinfection, and sterilisation, why disinfection alone is not always enough, and how correct autoclave use, testing, documentation, maintenance, and safe storage all support patient safety, compliance, and professional trust.

There may even be a few interesting comparisons between UK, CQC and European sterilisation standards and daily practice, with practical questions around daily routines, autoclave water use, testing, documentation and whether mains water is always needed.

The General Dental Council has opened the annual renewal period for dental care professionals. Key steps include paying the £108 ARF and making an indemnity declaration by end of July and submitting a CPD statement by end of August.

This year’s renewal includes simplified CPD requirements and a voluntary working patterns survey to support workforce planning.

Final Reminder – National Survey of Dental Nursing Workforce 2026

If you haven’t already taken part, there’s still time to complete the National Survey of Dental Nursing Workforce 2026.

Led by Ms Najat Al-Katheri, PhD candidate in Dental Public Health at King’s College London, this important research aims to better understand the experiences, skills and career intentions of dental nurses across the UK.

We strongly encourage all dental nurses to take part. Together, we can help shape the future of the profession.

The BADN agents have secured a copy of the Scottish Dental Show floorplan during a highly discreet operation designed to ensure dental nurses reach the BADN stand with dignity intact.

Professor Benjamin Dover-Quack has stated that the mission was “strategically necessary, professionally handled, and best left unexplained”, which has only raised further questions.

Details of the acquisition remain classified. One can only assume the purpose was to help anyone wishing to meet us at stand A08 without the indignity of relying on Google Maps.

Richard, Justin, and Robyn refused to comment, offering only “qua qua”, which apparently means they have discovered their inner Braveheart.

BADN News

After a number of suspiciously successful operations elsewhere, BADN has decided to send its secret agents north of the border for Scottish Dental Show 2026.

Richard the Duck will be carrying a FREE full year BADN membership, while Justin Case and Robyn Banks will be lurking nearby with £10 and £20 off BADN membership.

Visitors will be able to find the agents, report to the stand and claim their reward — which sounds simple, until it gets competitive.

Professor Benjamin Dover-Quack insists they are fully prepared. We have chosen to believe him.
