Thank you so much to our local businesses who very kindly donated a voucher for our raffle and to everyone who took part 💜

We raised £242, which enables 9 of our members to receive a festive lunch and a gift each, this Christmas. 🫶

As a self funded organisation, we are incredibly grateful of each and every donation and contribution to our cause, no matter how big or small. Every penny makes such a difference to families affected by Domestic Abuse.

💟 Bridge of Hope 💟

Tomorrow, a visual display of purple ribbons with quotes and local support infomation will be tied to the boating lake bridge, on The Esplanade Fleetwood.

Purple ribbons on a bridge symbolises the journey from fear towards safety, isolation towards support and surviving towards healing for anyone experiencing or impacted by Domestic Abuse.

This visual presence aims to:
✨Promote public awareness.
✨Reassure Survivors they are not alone.
✨Encourage the community to learn about local support.
✨Remember and honour our loved ones.

Last year we held a similar community display, with messages of hope on rocks that was displayed around Fleetwood.
The impact of our display sparked conversations, whereby 6 ladies reached out to Domestic Abuse Support Hub- Behind Closed Doors for support.

Unfortunately due to the storm we’ve not been able to promote this sooner.

Whatever the weather, our mission doesn't stop. 🌧️

Yesterday, our incredible volunteers braved the storm to spark vital conversations with residents in Fleetwood, about the deep link between domestic abuse and pets 🐾

Only 2 out of 30 dog walkers we spoke to, understood the barriers survivors face, trying to escape Domestic Abuse while having pets at home.

🐶Pets are used as a way to keep control, using threats or violence if survivors try to leave.

🐶Emergency housing do not accommodate pets, making it more difficult for survivors to secure a safe home.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to talk with us, tied purple awareness ribbons to their dogs, and continued our awareness movement 💜

And an immense thank you to our team for showing up no matter what!

Why doesn’t she just leave?
Here is one of many reasons- Pets 🐶

Pets act as a major barrier to escaping domestic abuse because perpetrators threaten, harm, or kill animals to exert control and force compliance.

✨How Abusers Use Pets for Control:
Abusers explicitly threaten to hurt, kill, or abandon pets if a survivor tries to leave.

✨Direct Harm: Research shows animals are abused or killed in a high percentage of domestic abuse relationships,to punish the survivor.

✨Holding Pets Hostage: Survivors often refuse to leave, or feel forced to return, because the abuser keeps the animal behind as leverage.

✨Lack of Pet-Friendly accommodation : Emergency refuge do not accept animals, leaving survivors with an impossible choice between their own safety and abandoning a beloved pet, especially after being stripped of all support networks.

✨Deep Emotional Bond: Pets provide crucial, unconditional emotional support, acting as a lifeline, for both the survivor and any children in the home.

✨Fear of Neglect: Survivors know that leaving the animal behind means exposing it to abuse, neglect, or even death.

Should you be experiencing domestic abuse and have no support for your pets, contact Dogs Trust on 📞0303 003 0000, who will temporarily foster your pet, until you are able to secure a safe home.

🌟 Community Spotlight 🌟

During October, , BCD volunteers are shining a spotlight on professionals whom actively support survivors through their tangible actions.

Fast action when supporting domestic abuse survivors is critical because risk can escalate rapidly. The period immediately after an incident or disclosure is the most dangerous. Early intervention prevents further risks and can prevent a decline in mental health & well-being.

Collaborating with services is vital to have that wrap around support for survivors and their families.

Our lived experience team would like to shine a spotlight on the Social prescribers team Jo,Rachel and Sarah from Torentum Primary Care Network.

Their dedication, fast action, and genuine care makes a significant difference to survivors when they need it most.

Survivors have shared-
They would not be safe and free without their support 💜
