A big thank you to everyone who joined us for yesterday's Mount Ward Wombles litter pick.

Eight volunteers took part and together collected 16 bags of litter from around the local area, helping to make a positive difference to the places we all share.

As always, it was great to see people giving up a bit of their Saturday morning to help keep Fleetwood looking cared for. Community litter picks aren't just about collecting rubbish, they're also a chance to meet people, enjoy some fresh air and work together towards a common goal.

Thank you to everyone who came along and to the people who stopped to say hello, offer encouragement or thank volunteers for their efforts. Those small gestures are always appreciated.

Our next session will be our Great Get Together litter pick on Saturday 20th June, meeting on Mount Road near the Mount Gate Lodge/Cafe from 10:00am. We'd love to see you there.

We'd also like to thank Fleetwood in Bloom and Wyre Council for their continued support. Community projects work best when people and organisations work together, and their support helps make sessions like these possible.

Together we're making a difference, one bag at a time. ♻️

A good reminder that batteries, vapes and small electrical items shouldn't be mixed in with general waste.

If you find them while litter picking, please keep them separate from other litter or leave them where they are. Items like these can become a serious fire risk if they're crushed or damaged during collection and processing.

Credit to the crew involved for their quick actions in dealing with this incident safely.

🌊 World Oceans Day 🌊

This photo shows just a drinks can and a dog poo bag on an otherwise beautiful stretch of coastline.

On their own, they might not seem like much. But as the weather improves and more people head to the beach, we start to see the same pattern every year. One item becomes several, several become dozens, and before long litter can be found right along the shoreline.

What makes the difference isn't a single can or poo bag, but the cumulative impact of hundreds of people using the coast throughout the summer.

Litter doesn't just affect how our beaches look. It can be carried by the wind and tides, while dog faeces left on the beach can affect water quality and spoil the enjoyment of the coastline for others.

World Oceans Day is a reminder that protecting our oceans and coastline isn't just about major environmental issues. Sometimes it's as simple as making sure nothing gets left behind.

If you're enjoying Fleetwood's coastline this summer, please take your litter home or use the bins provided. Small actions, repeated by hundreds of people, make a real difference.

As Volunteers' Week comes to a close, we'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who gives their time to help make Fleetwood a cleaner, more welcoming place.

Yesterday's litter pick was a great reminder of what community volunteering is all about. Despite a very wet and windy start to the morning, five volunteers still turned out and together collected 15 bags of litter from around the area. Thankfully the weather improved as the morning went on, and we were also encouraged by several kind comments and thank-yous from members of the public along the way. Those small gestures mean a great deal to volunteers and are always appreciated.

Volunteering is about much more than collecting litter. It's about people coming together because they care about their community, taking pride in the places we share, and building friendships and connections along the way.

What began as a small group of volunteers meeting in Mount Ward has continued to grow into Fleetwood Wombles, with regular litter picks now taking place across different parts of the town. Yesterday's session saw volunteers working across parts of Pharos, Warren and Mount wards, reflecting how the group has grown beyond its original roots.

Whether you've been with us from the early Mount Ward Wombles days or joined more recently, thank you for being part of the journey. Every bag collected, every hour volunteered and every word of encouragement helps make a difference.

Our next litter pick takes place on Saturday 13th June, meeting opposite the main gates of Memorial Park from 10:00am.

We'll also be taking part in the Great Get Together weekend on Saturday 20th June, meeting on Mount Road near the Mount Gate Lodge/Cafe from 10:00am. As part of the national celebration of community inspired by Jo Cox's message that we have far more in common than that which divides us, we'll also be having an informal get-together afterwards for anyone who would like to stay for a brew and a chat.

Community projects work best when people and organisations work together. We're grateful for the continued support of Fleetwood In Bloom and Wyre Council, whose practical support helps make our litter picks possible.

Thank you again to everyone who volunteers, supports, encourages and champions what we do. We couldn't do it without you.

A big thank you to Healthier Fleetwood, Fleetwood Rotary and David Gore for organising Saturday's Volunteers Fayre.

It was great to see a range of local groups, charities and community organisations coming together to showcase volunteering opportunities and community projects from across Fleetwood.

We had a number of positive conversations throughout the day with both visitors and other organisations attending. It was a good opportunity to talk about Fleetwood Wombles, community litter picking and some of the different ways people can get involved locally, while also learning more about the fantastic work being carried out by other groups across the town.

It was also great to spend time chatting with volunteers from Fleetwood In Bloom, The Bay: A Blueprint for Recovery and other local organisations about ways we can continue supporting and strengthening volunteering across Fleetwood.

Whether it's litter picking, gardening, maintaining community spaces, helping at events or supporting local projects, there are lots of ways to get involved. At the heart of all these activities is a shared belief that looking after our town also means looking after the people who live here, helping build stronger communities, connections and a sense of pride in where we live.

Our "Guess the Sweets in the Jar" competition proved to be a bit of a hit and certainly helped break the ice, drawing people over for a chat and helping start conversations about volunteering, community action and the work of Fleetwood Wombles.

Well done to Danny, whose guess of 372 was the closest. The jar contained 374 sweets, earning him the litter pick bundle.

We'll be getting in touch with everyone who left their details with us over the coming days.

For anyone who couldn't make it, we've attached some of the information from our display boards.

All of the June Mount Ward Wombles sessions will be meeting opposite Fleetwood Memorial Park from 10:00am to 11:30am. We've chosen to use the same meeting point throughout the month to make it easier for people to find us and avoid confusion.

If you don't use Facebook, Fleetwood Wombles can also be found through CleanupUK at www.cleanupuk.org.uk. If you know someone who may be interested in getting involved with volunteer litter picking, feel free to point them in our direction.

As it is also Volunteers' Week, we'd like to take the opportunity to thank all the volunteers who give their time to support Fleetwood and the wider community. Whether it's litter picking, gardening, community events, supporting local charities or helping behind the scenes, every contribution makes a difference.

If litter picking isn't for you, we'd also encourage people to take a look at the opportunities available through Fleetwood in Bloom and the many other community groups working hard to make a positive difference across Fleetwood.
