Is it November already! 🍁🍂

Today we met up at Thornaby academy and spilt off in various directions to cover as much area as possible.

Our amazing team of 11 volunteers 🦺 collected 26 bags of litter 🚮 and other items including:

Broken chair 🪑
Two Scooters 🛴 🛴
Pumpkins 🎃
Nitrous Oxide canister
Traffic Cone
Kiddies broken plastic Toy 👶
Bat 🏸
Metal frame
Backpack 🎒

Thank you to Ann for providing us with warm drinks and scones today they are always appreciated by all of our volunteers.

Next Sunday we will be meeting at the earlier time of 8am to litter pick the route for the Remembrance Day parade ♥️ details to follow.

THE LITTER WITCH IS WATCHING YOU! 👀 🧙🏻‍♀️

I am the Litter Witch, I’ve seen your lazy way,
Tossing litter all around every single day,
It’s vile and uncaring ... you won’t confess,
You’d rather let someone else clean up your mess 🤷🏽‍♀️

Where’s your sense of pride? You’re part of a community,
Pollution affects your future, you have no immunity,
The litter that you drop it does not go away,
It’s a danger to our wildlife everywhere they stray 🦇

Poor animals are suffering, they’re dying in distress,
Because of lazy people who could not care much less 🦔

Your neighbours feel sad, at the state of their street,
Stepping out of their doors with litter at their feet 🙁

Using a bin is simple you know,
Please try it sometime, just give it a go 🚯
Living in filth means spreading disease,
You’re polluting the earth and killing the bees! 🐝

This cannot go on, we must take a stand,
We need to act now to take care of this land 🌍
Living in filth isn’t clever or cool,

From warming soups to tasty pies, there are plenty of ways to enjoy pumpkins beyond Halloween decorations. 🍲

This Pumpkin Day, let’s remember to keep food waste to a minimum! 🍂

Let’s clean up our community! 💚

Come along to the Mandale and Victoria Big Clean Up this November!

🔥 Ahead of Bonfire Night, we’ll be working together with our partners to tidy up the local area and remove rubbish that could provide fuel for deliberate fires, helping to keep our communities cleaner and safer.

📅 Wednesday 4 November
⏰ 11am
📍 Meet at the old garages on Spring Close, Thornaby
🧤 Litter-picking equipment will be provided.
👨‍👩‍👧 Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

🚒🌳 These events are about much more than picking up rubbish. They’re a chance to bring people together, take pride in our neighbourhoods, protect our green spaces and make our local environment a better place for everyone to enjoy.

A chilly start 🥶but definitely a warmer end to our pick today ☕️

This morning we joined forces with Ingleby Barwick Community Litter Project and some of the lovely team members from Hickory's Smokehouse Thornaby to tackle both around the restaurant and further afield onto the industrial estate.

In just under an hour we collected an amazing 35 bags of litter 🚮 and other miscellaneous items! Pauline spotted some fly tipped items and reported them to CFYA.

We ended our pick with complimentary drinks ☕️🫖 and snacks 🍪🍪 from the guys at Hickory’s and our lovely Pam brought chocolate cake 😋
It was so nice to be able to sit in a warm space, relax and enjoy a warm cuppa and catch up with everyone, not to mention the use of a loo 🚽😆

Thank you again to Hickory’s for the kind gesture of hospitality our volunteers really appreciated it, and we look forward to working with you in the future. 💚

⚠️ Beware: it could turn into fly-tipping.

Unlicensed traders who dump rubbish illegally ruin our neighbourhoods and take money away from public services like schools, parks and social care 😡

Keep Britain Tidy has launched to protect the places we love and stop criminals from trashing them.

Here’s how you can help ⤵️

If you see a cheap deal on social media that looks too good to be true, don’t fall for it. Unless they have a licence, you’ll be paying for a criminal to dump your stuff illegally.

✅Take three simple steps before agreeing to a waste collection
1. Ask for a waste carrier registration number
2. Check it on the Environment Agency’s public register (or call 0300 065 3000)
3. Check you’ll get a receipt

We're looking forward to teaming up with the staff from Hickory's Smokehouse this weekend for a litter pick around the Industrial Estate.

Please meet in Hickory's car park. We will be there from 850am ready to hand out equipment for a 9am start 👍🏻 just turn up and pick up! 🤩

We will finish at 10am, with free refreshments at the end for all volunteers.
