A Christmas Carol: An Evening of Spirits and Christmas Cheer

There was no doubt whatever about it: Christmas was coming. And in Teignmouth, a most splendid evening was being prepared…

On Monday 21st December, from 6pm to 8pm, join us at St James Church, Teignmouth, for Charles Dickens’ much-loved A Christmas Carol, adapted and read by Tony Lidington, also known as Uncle Tacko.

Come along, good friends, and follow Ebenezer Scrooge through a night of ghostly visitations, forgotten joys and unexpected kindness. Journey through Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come, as a cold old heart discovers the warmth of friendship and the happiness to be found in caring for others.
And what would such an evening be without a little festive refreshment? Our bar will be open, serving mince pies and mulled w**e, with all proceeds going to The Alice Cross Centre. Every purchase will help us continue bringing food, friendship and support to our community—a cause of which even a reformed Mr Scrooge would surely approve!

Admission is FREE, but booking is essential. Even the most generous Christmas spirit cannot conjure an unlimited number of seats.

Join us at The Alice Cross Centre to explore fascinating science topics, discover new ideas and enjoy an evening in good company. 🧠✨

Dr Francesca Boyd
Postdoctoral Research Fellow – University of Exeter Business School
Today, future land use is under unprecedented pressure with infinite demands on finite space to provide food, renewable energy, recreation, livelihoods, and wild spaces. In the context of climate change, economic uncertainty and changing policy, this talk asks what, who and how are our landscapes changing?
The aim is to challenge how we think about land use, to pose questions rather than prescribe answers. Together we’ll explore how the value of our environment is more than a spreadsheet or single policy can contain.
Frankie is a researcher in nature and human connection. She is currently the principal investigator on a project focused on nature restoration and rewilding projects in farming landscapes. It aims to understand the relationship and trade-offs between food and nature, and the different roles of farming, other businesses, policymakers and organisations. In addition, she has researched business owners’ action to engage with biodiversity priorities.
