Over 1,000 residents have backed a petition by the Teignmouth Lido Community Trust to save the which faces closure and sale by Teignbridge District Council in 2026. The community group aims to run the East Cliff seafront pool this summer despite the council's plan to sell the site.
In February 2026, allegations of "mismanagement" regarding Teignmouth Lido have focused on Teignbridge District Council's decision to close and sell the facility despite its status as an Asset of Community Value (ACV). Critics and local councillors have raised several specific points of concern regarding how the site has been handled. Despite an £800,000 refurbishment four years ago and frequent closures for additional repairs, the council now claims the facility is too expensive to run. Local campaigners allege that Teignbridge Leisure has "deliberately run the lido into the ground" to justify a sale.
