Taunton Repair Cafe – Saturday 9th May

The next repair café is on Saturday 9th May 10:30 am - 12:30 pm. Location is Moose Hall, Castle Street, Taunton, TA1 4AS. Bring along broken electrical items, ceramics, jewellery, toys or an item of clothing to be repaired. We can also sharpen small tools like knifes, secateurs and shears. All repairs are free but we do ask for a donation to cover our costs of running these events. The dates for the year 2026 are as follows: -11th July -14th November

What We Repaired at the November Repair Cafe

16 items were repaired: 5 sewing items (including 3 for our volunteers) - trouser hem, torn jacket pocket, repairs to willow's shoes (Nev's dog),a challenging stitching repair to a bag and a dress hem (taken off site for completion) 7 electrical/mechanical items - standard lamp, hoover, tape recorder, SAD lamp, electric stapler, toy terminator and an electronic Tardis toy. 4 other items were fixed - a broken bracelet catch, another broken TV remote button (Vicky fixed one last time), a broken plate from last session and a new challenge for Bruce: a metronome which could not be wound up....

Would anyone be interested in some gardening classes focussed mainly on edible plants in the near future. This could be propagating from cuttings or sowing seeds... just some helpful tips on successfully growing edibles. It will be run from a central Taunton garden. As to be expected on the hottest day of the year, there were fewer customers than usual, which was just as well, with only 5 repairers. 11 customers (all arriving early) brought in 17 items to be examined. (Another one did not want to wait and said she would return in Sept) 3 items were not repairable, leaving 14 items/problems repaired/solved....
