Just a little motivation as we start a new week…

You don't have to become someone else to shine. Spiritually and mentally, there is beauty in simply being who you are. Trust your journey, protect your peace, and give yourself permission to grow at your own pace.

The world doesn't need a perfect version of you. It needs the beautiful, authentic person you already are.

Sometimes the hardest things to say are the things we need to talk about most.

For many young people, having someone outside of family and friends to speak with can make all the difference. Our Children and Young People’s Counselling Service offers a caring and confidential space where young people aged 11 upwards can explore their thoughts and feelings and work through life's challenges.

Counselling can help young people:

- Talk about difficult experiences, perhaps for the first time
- Understand their thoughts and emotions more clearly
- Find ways to cope with current struggles or past experiences
- Recognise patterns that may no longer be serving them
- Build confidence and create positive change

We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to be listened to with kindness and without judgement.

Art and therapy work hand in hand, offering a creative space to slow down, reflect, and simply be. Sometimes emotions can be hard to put into words, but creativity provides a gentle and natural way to express feelings, find calm, and reconnect with ourselves.

Creative activities can help reduce stress, boost confidence, encourage mindfulness, and create moments of peace and connection. Healing does not always happen through conversation alone. Sometimes it emerges quietly through creativity and the experience of sharing space with others.

Every Thursday, we run a drop-in art and therapy session. There is no pressure and no expectation to attend every week. No previous experience is needed; just come along as you are.

Volunteers’ Week is a great chance to celebrate the incredible volunteers who help make us what we are.

From supporting the charity behind the scenes to sharing their professional skills and experience, our volunteers play an essential role in helping us provide affordable counselling to people across Somerset.

Their commitment means that donations and fundraising income can go even further, helping us reach more people in need and continue developing our services.

Thanks to this support, we have been able to expand our counselling provision, including introducing EMDR therapy and offering counselling for children aged 8 and over. It also helps us continue providing low-cost counselling, ensuring that financial circumstances are not a barrier to accessing support.

Every volunteer contribution helps us strengthen mental health and wellbeing within our community, and we are incredibly thankful for the difference they make every day.

If you would like to become a volunteer with us, or if you feel you could benefit from counselling, please get in touch via our website to find out how we can help: https://scctaunton.org.uk/contact/

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to our Trustees, who are themselves volunteers.

Behind every counselling session, every fundraising event, and every person who reaches out for support, there is a dedicated group of individuals giving their time, expertise, and guidance to help shape our future.

They play a vital role in ensuring our charity remains strong, sustainable, and focused on its mission. They help set our strategic direction, oversee governance, manage risk, and make important decisions that enable us to continue providing accessible, affordable counselling across Somerset. They challenge us to think about the bigger picture while always keeping our community's needs at the heart of what we do. Their commitment, knowledge and support help ensure that we can continue to provide a safe space to talk for those who need it most.

To each of our Trustees, thank you for everything you do. Your contribution makes a lasting difference to our charity and the people we support.
